Self-Hosted version of TickTick reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- philosurpher · 2023-11-28 07:31 Wondering what the closest thing to a to-do task manager like TickTick would be? I don't necessarily need deep google calendar integration, but a task to-do app that has a similar clean / practical interface, bonus points if cross-platform possibilities like having an iphone app? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adamshand · 2023-11-28 10:15 CalDAV server plus the built in iOS Reminders app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FA40 · 2023-11-28 15:16 I couldn't find one that suited me, so I continued using TickTick. I tried very hard to like Vikunja, which is probably the closest alternative to TickTick, but the lack of an iPhone/iPad app, among a few other issues, drove me back. I didn't like using the right column to set task attributes. In my view, it requires too many clicks to set up a task with start/end times, effort levels, etc. This is especially painful on the phone. Another feature I missed in Vikunja was the drag-and-drop functionality that TickTick offers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thebobrooney · 2023-11-28 22:58 May I ask why would self-host simple to-do app? I'm just curious. Joplin has to-do part. Nothing special (far from ticktick) but it can be self-hosted and has iphone app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YesImMexican · 2023-11-29 12:47 I'm trying to get away from using subscription based apps. For TickTick, I found a lot of the recent changes to Apple Reminders have really improved the experience. For more robust task tracking, I purchased Things 3 on iPhone and Mac during their black friday sale. So far, I'm really enjoying the experience. I know using two apps to replace one isn't everyone's cup of tea, but in my use case, it works. I use Apple Reminders for collaborative reminders and grocery lists with my wife. I use Things for personal chores and tracking work tasks. I recommend you give Things a try and see if you like it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- philosurpher · 2023-11-30 07:38 Hadn't heard of that, seems like a very promising app. Hope they continue to develop it more. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- philosurpher · 2023-11-30 07:39 Mostly because the best options I've found require a monthly subscription fee that I'd like to avoid if I can find an alternative. Haven't tried Joplin but have looked at it before, I'll look at it more carefully, thanks for the tip. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- philosurpher · 2023-11-30 07:40 Thanks for sharing. This looks really cool but unfortunately I'm locked into a Windows environment. I love (and miss) apps that are one-time fees. More than happy to support and pay for those types of programs.
