Looking for a simple way of sharing family photos/videos from a directory reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gofikadags · 2023-11-27 15:30 Hi! I am looking for a simple way of sharing family photos and videos with a few people. Our current "workflow" is to take photos and upload them to a directory on Dropbox. That directory is set to show the files without any authentication. We have a script that we run periodically that renames the files to contain the date they were taken as part of the filename. An example of our file tree would be: * family * 2020 * 2021 * 2022 * photo-xyz-2023-10-01.jpg * photo-xyz-2023-10-02.jpg * photo-xyz-2023-10-03.jpg * video-xyz-2023-10-04.mp4 * photo-xyz-2023-10-05.jpg What we need/want: * Not a lot of advanced configuration we'll not use * That the directory tree (we can re-arrange the folder structure if needed) is the "source of truth" and that the self-hosted solution just provides a nice way of navigating and looking at the photos and videos. In other words, if we have to import something manually when a new photo/video is added, it's too much effort. We'll keep using Dropbox for now, and sync the files to our home server, which also runs docker containers. Any ideas? I guess it could just be a web-based file browser of some kind, which makes it easy to view photos and videos. I've mostly seen complicated software when I've browsed around. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pravardhan · 2023-11-27 15:50 Filebrowser? It's a web based filebrowser. I host it on all my servers ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gofikadags · 2023-11-27 18:47 I'll assume it is this one: [https://github.com/filebrowser/filebrowse r](https://github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser) That looks great! I tried out the demo. Hopefully, it is possible to give read-only permissions to a user. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- austozi · 2023-11-27 21:20 Maybe check out https://github.com/bpatrik/pigallery2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gofikadags · 2023-11-28 17:44 Thanks! Will do! Both of the suggestions seem pretty awesome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcadianarcadian · 2023-11-29 12:27 I tested many photo management tools. sharing from directory; \- pigallery \- photoview ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gofikadags · 2023-11-29 17:37 Much appreciated! Then I have one more to try (haven't had time to check'em out yet) in https://photoview.github.io/ . I guess pigallery is the same as pigallery2 above? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcadianarcadian · 2023-11-29 17:54 yes, they're same.
