Any good alternatives to Mega.nz? Self-hosted, encrypted personal cloud reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YankeeLimaVictor · 2023-11-26 09:38 Trying to find a good self-hosted alternative for client-sode encrypted personal cloud. I have given Seafile a try, but it's android app is pretty bad. It doesn't show any thumbnails of images, and it also downloads every single file I click to view. Im looking for something that behaves a litte more like mega.nz Where, using the app or Web, I can view pictures and videos, and then download them if I want. Files being completely encrypted in the server is a must. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lankiness8244 · 2023-11-26 09:44 Nextcloud ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-11-26 09:45 Have your try NextCloud? Have an app, and you can encrypt server side and share directories with password also. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pwnamte · 2023-11-26 13:20 Mega.nz is crap so anything is good alternative. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- birelarweh · 2023-11-26 13:55 And what would be your recommendation? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pwnamte · 2023-11-26 13:57 Im using nextcloud ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YankeeLimaVictor · 2023-11-26 15:13 Why? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YankeeLimaVictor · 2023-11-26 17:51 Nextcloud doesn't encrypt file and folder names. for me, thats a show- stopper. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YankeeLimaVictor · 2023-11-26 17:51 Nextcloud doesn't encrypt file and folder names, even when encryption is enabled. for me, thats a show-stopper... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lankiness8244 · 2023-11-26 17:53 Nextcloud support client side encryption ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dotinho · 2023-11-26 17:58 Yes it does [here](https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/admin_manu al/configuration_files/encryption_configuration.html) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RedditSlayer2020 · 2023-11-26 18:24 Your comment is cap ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YankeeLimaVictor · 2023-11-26 18:26 From that link: "It encrypts only the contents of files, and not filenames and directory structures." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Glycerine · 2023-11-26 18:41 Our comment is cap ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mirisbowring · 2023-11-26 19:49 Based on checksums or other metadata, they can detect wether you have a specific file in your drive - got already a strike (even though this file was not even illegal in my country) Since it was illegal in New Zealand ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ScribeOfGoD · 2023-11-26 22:38 encrypt with rclone crypt to nextcloud? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onedr0p · 2023-11-27 01:34 Zipline https://github.com/diced/zipline ---------------------------------------------------------------------- YankeeLimaVictor · 2023-11-27 07:23 Yeah, just found the e2e encryption. It seems to only work on the app, and not on the browser. So, still not a Mega replacement, also, thumbnails don't seem to work on encrypted folders... Thanks anyway. I'll stick to Mega for now... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lankiness8244 · 2023-11-27 07:27 Maybe encrypt with external tools ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RuffKez · 2023-11-28 04:04 https://transfer.sh
