Plex not refreshing library reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AhmedBarayez · 2023-11-25 18:16 So my setup is - Proxmox server with the main HDD for media - Plex VM with auto library refresh enabled - My main windows pc at home I copied all my media folders/files to a folder on proxmox server hdd and named it media-server I attached this hdd as vda and mounted it on the plex vm so it can read all the files and add it to the library I created a smb share from proxmox server hdd so i can update my library with all new movies or series So I thought that with this setup whenever i add new movie to the proxmox hdd from my windows pc it will make plex library auto refresh and scan to add the new data However this isn’t happening when i add new folder or change anything it doesn’t reflect on plex, i even tried to manually scan library but sometimes it work and sometimes it doesn’t What could be wrong with this setup? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-11-25 18:26 based on your setup, probably something with permissions. could also be your files aren't organized and/or named correctly > Plex VM with auto library refresh enabled - My main windows pc at home why not just run plex server in windows instead of a vm? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AhmedBarayez · 2023-11-25 18:31 All files have all read permission so i don’t think it’s the issue, hmm i think .. Why not running it on windows, all my home lab servers and apps are running on ubuntu server but my daily driver is windows 😂 I don’t trust these services to run on windows ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-11-25 18:49 your post is confusing, is plex running on proxmox or a vm in windows? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AhmedBarayez · 2023-11-25 18:51 Plex is running on vm inside proxmox server ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-11-25 18:52 got it. then if its not permissions is everything organized and named/tagged correctly? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AhmedBarayez · 2023-11-25 18:59 Yes all folders are like (movieName year) or (movieName) Files are (movieName year quality) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SmashLanding · 2023-11-25 19:00 I always have problems refreshing new libraries for the last 2 years or so. Generally restarting the server gets it going. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AhmedBarayez · 2023-11-25 19:02 Hmm that seems not promising 😰 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AhmedBarayez · 2023-11-25 19:18 Now i think it's a permission issue This highlighted one is the latest one i added from my Windows computer, it has a different permission https://ibb.co/Wcx5dqN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-11-25 21:19 If scanning manually doesn’t work, then there’s a larger issue here. Faulty HD perhaps? Otherwise, this happens to me when Plex is using a folder that is mounted on a file system with no inotify support, such as network shares. You mention you have SMB, but it’s not clear if Plex is using the folder over network or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AhmedBarayez · 2023-11-25 21:22 smb share is only used by windows pc to add/update/delete library plex is mounting the hdd as virtual hd ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Perrozoso · 2023-11-25 22:16 Not really related to your issue but I created a windows VM with remote desktop in Proxmox to manage my Plex media so I don't have to run my daily driver for long downloads or extractions. Just an idea if your Proxmox server has the extra physical resources.
