Messaging system for veterinary clinic reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- smoknjoe44 · 2023-11-22 21:10 I am looking for some ideas of internal messaging among staff at my veterinary hospital. Right now, we use the messaging feature in our cloud based electronic medical record system. However, the company keeps making shitty updates that makes the messaging feature frustrating to use anymore. What I really need is for staff to be able to send messages to the doctor when an owner calls and/or when someone calls to get a medication refill authorization. I also need to be able to send messages back to staff if they need to relay a message to an owner or do a certain task. It would be nice to be able to have each individual user have their own user name, but also be able to categorize them (i.e. technicians, doctors, receptionists). I would like it to where all staff can see all the messages just in case someone is not there and the message needs to be answered by someone else. Any ideas on something that could fit this use case? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FuriousRageSE · 2023-11-22 21:20 No idea of anything already made, but this doesnt sound "way too hard" to code one self if you know how to program. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-22 21:25 Matrix/Synapse. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Whispzy · 2023-11-22 21:26 I would take a look at [Mattermost](https://mattermost.com) might say for tech people, but i think this would do for you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- piano1029 · 2023-11-22 22:39 IRC, it's ancient which may sound bad but it means that most implementations have grown mature and won't cause issues. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 399ddf95 · 2023-11-22 23:00 I used a $0 tier Slack workspace for this in a small business, it worked OK. The Slack clients are enormous in memory. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yoganerdYVR · 2023-11-23 11:08 We use signal and have a few groups for each category of staff. Super simple, and secure. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SirLagz · 2023-11-23 12:42 And plenty of web based clients for it too ---------------------------------------------------------------------- albtechno · 2023-11-23 13:43 u can use Virola Messenger self hosted and also public its great supports audio calling screen sharing/remote, file send, groups and all. Just started using it for my company with around 40 pcs and no problem its simple its great recommend it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- smoknjoe44 · 2023-12-08 23:29 Do you self host a signal instance on your server or how do you run it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yoganerdYVR · 2023-12-09 00:20 https://signal.org/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- smoknjoe44 · 2023-12-09 00:25 Thanks but just wondering how you all run it? Does everyone just install the app on their phones? Or do you run on work computers?
