TSDNS how to block undefined domains reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wayne1191 · 2023-11-21 22:49 Hello, I am running 3 TeamSpeak-Server on Proxmox-Host. I opened Port 9987, 30033 and 41144 for my first TeamSpeak-Server. I have some (Sub)Domains pointing to my home-network. I just want to get connected by defined Subdomains. E.G. Ts1.mydomain.com -> 1st ts-server Ts2.mydomain.com -> 2nd ts-server Ts3.mydomain.com -> 3rd ts-server mydomain.com -> blocked otherdomain.com -> blocked How do I do that? Current tsdns-Entries: ts1.mydomain.com=IP1:$Port ts2.mydomain.com=IP2:$Port *=NORESPONSE It works fine except that not defined domains don’t get blocked. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pe46dro · 2023-11-21 23:15 I think you don't need TSDNS you just need to setup SRV record for teamspeak and run non standard port for TS3 servers ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wayne1191 · 2023-11-22 00:11 But don’t I need to enter domain.com:nonStandardPort then to connect to the right ts? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ferrybig · 2023-11-22 08:59 Hosts your teamspeak server on a non standard port, if an domain is not defined by tsdns or SRV records, it falls back to the A record of your domain and the default port ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pe46dro · 2023-11-22 11:59 Teamspeak resolves SRV record so you don't need to specify the port ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wayne1191 · 2023-11-22 13:50 Okay, I’ve changed the default port (opened them in my router to the hosts) and set srv-records on mydomain.com and on ts1.mydomain.com, ts2.mydomain.com What about TeamSpeak-filetransfer-ports? Now I can’t connect via othersubdomain.mydomain.com, that’s how it should be. But if I connect to mydomain.com, it randomly connects me to one of the TeamSpeak-servers. What did I do wrong? Thanks for your help. (Sorry I am still learning) P.S. Isn’t it easier with TSDNS, I mean I have to change each servers port instead of adding an entry to the TSDNS.ini, or do „big hosters“ work like that too? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pe46dro · 2023-11-22 23:52 1. File transfer port is managed by teamspeak on connection you can change it but it's not needed 1(.1?). Do you have SRV defined on your root domain? 2. You should need only the SRV for example if you have an A subdomain with an SRV defined SRV comes first in TS3 resolution and you can have another IP on the A record to connect to a webserver 1(.2?). I'm not a „big hoster“ but personally I prefer less service that can cause problems, for example if you use cloudflare for your DNS you can make a script that creates the TS3 instance, set a port and create the SRV via API ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wayne1191 · 2023-11-23 00:19 Thank you for your help. I got it. Yeah, I’ve set srv-record in my root-domain *facepalm* I’ve now set srv-records in each subdomain. I defined the voice- and filetransfer-port in the ts3server.ini and opened these ports in my router for each host.
