Massive Gratitude to this Subreddit reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- THEUncleWilly50 · 2023-11-20 23:40 I've been lurking in this subreddit for a bit over a year. In the process, I have learned a ton about self-hosting services and how to manage them. Today, I decided to show my appreciation for what I've learned here. My current setup is made up of piecemeal parts I was gifted or found for cheap on Craigslist. It is by no means efficient or elegant, but it's allowing me to use the information I find here to learn way more about networking, self-hosting, and management than I ever could. I've stumbled many times, looking for a solution to a particular issue with my setup. Nine times out of ten, the answer has been addressed and solved here. I am extremely grateful to all the knowledgeable people here who have shared personal projects, helped other Redditors through their problems, or otherwise contributed to the knowledge base that is contained here. For every person who engages here and receives help for their specific issues, know that there are almost definitely many others like me who stay silent and learn from all the shared knowledge shared in this subreddit. Thank you for everything that you all do to make the self-hosted community accessible for those of us who want to jump in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fhigb-Jin-ny · 2023-11-21 00:50 Same - being a lurker. I had zero interest in this. In 2019, my kids became of internet age. I was tasked with finding a filtering tool to protect the kiddies. The rabbit hole opened, and over the past 3-4 years, acquiring a bunch of hardware and trying new tools and services is my lego. I'm not wired to post seeking help, but this community is rich in ideas and solutions. And it had been a great help. Some serious intellects live here! The u/Techno-Tim series on Proxmox ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7 OVaWaqO2aU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OVaWaqO2aU)) and Docker was so helpful. And there are loads of other Tubers (and new ones) coming in and making this accessible for all. Thanks all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tharunx · 2023-11-21 01:17 Someone mentioned about the Rabbit hole when i first posted on this subReddit lol, now i know. But seriously this is the most friendly, helpful subReddit Ive seen ---------------------------------------------------------------------- FrozenLogger · 2023-11-21 02:28 I really like seeing what people are doing and reading the questions and comments. I know my time using Reddit is going to come to an end soon thanks to their crappy practices, so it seems like a good idea to mention that Self Hosted on Lemmy is doing pretty good now, and it is worthwhile to grow that community. Besides, you can host your own Lemmy instance. Not only a discussion place, *but for us,* also a project! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jimmygle · 2023-11-21 03:58 Love this community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok_Antelope_1953 · 2023-11-21 10:51 thank you for the youtube link! as a certified idiot who is always willing to learn i love when people share their knowledge. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- droans · 2023-11-21 11:48 Oh I just need to install Home Assistant. The Python venv method is rather clumsy. Let's install Docker and make it easier. Hm, I definitely want Plex, too. And let's automate media grabbing. Okay I could use a reverse proxy so I could use it remotely and automate the certs. Well, let's get Portainer running to help me out. And Dozzle will help me view the logs. Wait, how the hell do I now have 68 containers running?! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BCIT_Richard · 2023-11-21 16:46 I've been meaning to do this, I've just been hosting a Libreddit container in the meantime since the API change.
