Pastebin with pre-signed URL? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rottmrei · 2023-11-20 07:56 I am looking for a lightweight pastebin that allows for pre-signed URLs. So that I can create a placeholder, know the URL to access it and can specify an expiration date. I would like to use this as self-cleaning temp storage for APIs where I could register a file, handover the readonly URL to the requestor and use a edit URL to update the contents after a flow has finished. S3 or NextCloud would allow to create pre-signed URLs for read-only and weite access but I would need to cleanup the files and the service would not be lightweight. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-20 08:02 Not exactly sure what you mean by pre-signed, but a whole bunch of pastebin-likes are listed in the awesome-selfhosted list in the subreddit sidebar. Also try simply searching this sub. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rottmrei · 2023-11-20 08:17 Thanks. Most pastebins will give you a new URL when you upload data and do not allow modification. With pre-signing I mean that I receive two urls to use for retrieving the data and writing data. As I know them upfront, I can hand them out immediately and start my longer process async to upload the result to the provided write link. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-20 08:24 Ah, one url to share for downloading and one to edit the bin. Yeah some of the tools offer that, but i cant remember which ones exactly. Take a look a the list and search results. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-11-20 09:52 Ask the reddit devs, that's basically how reddit started out! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root_switch · 2023-11-21 06:22 Couldn’t you just use any pastebin that allows you to “edit” pastes. Essentially you first process would create a new paste (maybe with nothing in it) then obtain the url and your other process would edit via the new url. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rottmrei · 2023-11-21 17:16 Yes, but without installing and trying out all of them I would not know the featureset. Most do not offer editing. Newer ones focus onnencryption and need a user that interacts with a browser and cannot be used with APIs. Microbin comes close but cannot alter content. Alternative could also be a combination of a pastebin and url shortener. But ideally a single binary server would be a good candidate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root_switch · 2023-11-21 23:11 If you’re just using programmatic/api access then why even use a pastebin, why not use something like Redis or any other message broker/database? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rottmrei · 2023-11-22 20:45 To have a very lightweight service that can be used to store the results and provide it later via http. Requester does not need to wait for processing and immediately knows where to pickup the results. “cheap-mans temporary storage“ for stateless script that does the processing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- root_switch · 2023-11-22 23:19 Still doesn’t make sense to me. Are there actual humans needing to go to the pastebin and read/write the data? If not then there is absolutely no reason to use a “pastebin”.
