firefly III + plaid for US banks? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ignacio94598 · 2023-11-19 20:43 I was able to get firefly III to work but i'm having troubles finding a good example for how to get it connected to my US accounts using plaid. I found [https://github.com/GeorgeHahn/firefly-plaid- connector](https://github.com/GeorgeHahn/firefly-plaid-connector) and [https://github.com/dvankley/firefly-plaid- connector-2/tree/main](https://github.com/dvankley/firefly-plaid- connector-2/tree/main) but the instructions are not clear enough for a newebie. Is there a good tutorial somewhere? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- highspeed_usaf · 2023-11-19 20:59 Plaid and firefly are not for the faint of heart. I was able to get the first connector working but my bank was returning escape characters that caused data to be parsed wrong. Never did get it to work behind a reverse proxy (SWAG). I’m considering trying it again, would definitely use the second connector by dvankley since it’s more supported right now, and I’ve since moved to NPM for reverse proxy so hopefully that’ll be a little more smooth. If I figure it out I’ll try to write up what I did for you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ignacio94598 · 2023-11-19 21:08 Is anyone aware of a self-hosted alternative to mint.com that integrates with us banks? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CharkDocolate · 2023-11-19 22:12 No experience with Firefly, but working directly with Plaid is feasible. I wrote my own integrations for Chase and it wasn’t too terrible. Was piping the data to a Streamlit dashboard at the time ---------------------------------------------------------------------- highspeed_usaf · 2023-11-19 22:34 I didn’t think Plaid let you get data out of Chase on the developer version? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AdvancingAardvark · 2023-11-20 00:33 I'm using Actual Budget, with the 3rd party SimpleFin connector. Works pretty smoothly. (Disclaimer: Currently one of the ones who's been updating / working on the connector). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CharkDocolate · 2023-11-20 01:03 Hmm I definitely was succsessful but this was a year ago so maybe things have changed. I’ll dig up the code I was using ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AdvancingAardvark · 2023-11-20 01:11 Chase has switched to oAuth only, which requires production access + their security questionnaire and approval ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ignacio94598 · 2023-11-20 02:05 >Actual Budget could you point me to a tutorial or example of how to do this with docker-compose? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AdvancingAardvark · 2023-11-20 02:19 Sure! You'll want to use latest, not edge, as there are API incompatibilities at the moment with the SimpleFin tool. https://actualbudget.org/docs/install/docker#launch-container-using- docker-compose and https://github.com/actualbudget/actual-server/blob/master/docker- compose.yml The SimpleFin tool itself is not dockerized, but it's a fairly straight forward NodeJS app. https://github.com/duplaja/actual-simplefin-sync/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CharkDocolate · 2023-11-20 02:55 Bummer! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ParticularCod6 · 2023-11-20 18:56 https://github.com/actualbudget/actual-server/blob/master/docker- compose.yml ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ignacio94598 · 2023-11-21 00:17 I was able to get actual to run, but when I go to add accounts it only shows GoCardless for bank sync which does not support US banks. Could you point me to an example of how to integrate it with SimpleFin connector? u/AdvancingAardvark ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ParticularCod6 · 2023-11-21 00:40 I was under the impression that the PR had been merged but it doesn't seem like it I found this on the discussion https://github.com/actualbudget/actual/issues/898 https://github.com/Thiesjoo/actualplaid ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AdvancingAardvark · 2023-11-21 01:09 You'll need to go to add an account as a local account, for each remote account you want to map. Give it the name you want to match to. Set up and run this project, that I linked above: https://github.com/duplaja/actual-simplefin-sync/ * git clone https://github.com/duplaja/actual-simplefin-sync/ * cd actual-simplefin-sync * npm install * node app.js and follow the setup prompts to link. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AdvancingAardvark · 2023-11-21 01:13 I will say SimpleFin Bridge, although a bit more limited in features, has great support, and they handle the oauth / etc.
