"Simple" centralized logging solution? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolucyyy · 2023-11-18 03:28 I've been looking into a centralized logging solution for my home network and such. I looked into grafana+loki, but it seems very complex, and I couldn't seem to get it working. I don't need anything overly fancy, I just want centralized logging and maybe metrics that I can access from a webui, preferably on the simpler side. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lazyzyf · 2023-11-18 03:33 authelia+lldap or kanidm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolucyyy · 2023-11-18 04:03 that's identity/authentication, not logging... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-18 04:04 If you want both logging and metrics then Grafana is definitelumy the way to go. Combine with Prometheus, cadvisor, node-exporter for example. And Loki plus promtail for the logs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-18 04:07 logging, not log in xD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolucyyy · 2023-11-18 04:53 Ah, thanks! Sorry for the dumb questions... I do appreciate the links, though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-18 05:48 reading is hard ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rho9cas · 2023-11-18 09:27 Google "Application Performance Monitoring tools". Signoz is one, for example. Combines logs, metrics, and traces. There's also OpenObserve. I use Uptrace, but in terms of metrics visualisation it's very barebones, just gauges basically. All of them can be setup with docker. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pranay01 · 2023-11-18 09:33 Thanks for mentioning SigNoz. Here's our github repo if you want to give it a spin - https://github.com/signoz/signoz ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onedr0p · 2023-11-18 11:35 When it comes to observability there's never going to be an easy solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Trustworthy_Fartzzz · 2023-11-18 13:43 Did you check out the Loki Docker plugin for the daemon? That worked like a charm for me. Promtail will grab host level logs as well. DM if you’re comfortable with Ansible; I have the whole stack (host + Docker services) automated and can share. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hunterfrombloodborne · 2023-11-18 13:45 I am trying to re-build my server, May be it can help me. Would you share it with me? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-18 14:14 Hey, just wanted to give SigNoz another try and i noticed that your install.sh script from the GitHub repo still expects `docker-compose` as command to exist, but its been quite a while now that common setups have changed and its now `docker compose`. Because of this the script tries to download and install compose even tho it already is there, just a quick fyi. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spaceman_Splff · 2023-11-18 14:25 Graylog. Super easy to set up. Getting the grok and regex patterns sorted kind of sucks for getting fields to be pulled out unless you are good with that already. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pranay01 · 2023-11-18 17:26 Thanks for the detailed feedback, Can you also create an issue here https://github.com/SigNoz/signoz/issues - we will check this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LastTreestar · 2023-11-18 17:47 Oh dang. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- endockhq · 2023-11-18 20:01 Give OpenObserve a try, it's able to handle a lot of traffic while using low resources. https://github.com/openobserve/openobserve ---------------------------------------------------------------------- foomatic999 · 2023-11-18 20:41 For security monitoring I'll throw Wazuh in the room. There's a room right recent video from John Hammond on the subject. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-11-18 23:53 You know what I'd like, something like this in PHP so I can drop it on my webserver and not have to have a cloud/VPS solution to have logging/metrics that don't rely on the thing the monitor is monitoring to monitor it!
