I can’t be the only one that cannot access jellyfin from iOS, right…? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TeamPantofola · 2023-11-17 22:43 Hi, new to the sub, I wonder if you could help me. I tried everything but can’t access from iPhone nor iPad through the app. My server is set on my Linux mint laptop, so I tried to do that thing where you tell the firewall to let devices from local host 8096 access the pc, but it does not work. I’m pretty sure is not a Linux problem at this point, it’s the iOS app that have some kind of block. Is there a way to make this app work? Did some of you succeed? (Before you suggest I use plex, it‘a not an option for me cos I can’t use it on my tv with fire stick. I also tried Emby but it uses the same local host of jellyfin, so when I open the emby server client it automatically goes to the jellyfin server page) Thanks for your kindness! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RedditSlayer2020 · 2023-11-17 22:58 r/jellyfin ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TeamPantofola · 2023-11-17 23:09 It’s an issue that’s unresolved, and jellyfin sub is closed permanently so I cannot ask there ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SnooPets20 · 2023-11-17 23:35 How do you know it's an iOS issue? Can you access Jellyfin with any other device? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TeamPantofola · 2023-11-17 23:38 It only works on my tv with Amazon fire stick. Not iPhone nor iPad lets me access, being it from mobile jellyfin app or from web browser ---------------------------------------------------------------------- wilhelm_david · 2023-11-17 23:52 https://forum.jellyfin.org/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- timothyclaypole · 2023-11-18 00:09 I’ve Jellyfin working perfectly on iOS and I didn’t need to do anything complicated. I’d suggest starting to diagnose this at a low level and move upwards as you confirm what is or is not working. For example I use an app called mocha ping which has a port scanner function - I’d suggest using something like that to check if your iOS device can get basic TCP connectivity to the IP adddress of your plex server on port 8096. If that worked then I’d consider using something like CharlesProxy to sniff the traffic between your web browser and the plex server. The intent here would be to try to understand what is actually being sent to/from the plex server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Armstrong2Cernan · 2023-11-18 00:33 Does the Jellyfin app have "Local Network" access allowed on your iPhone / iPad? Check it in Settings > Jellyfin That could be the problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Fixurappls · 2023-11-18 06:01 Maybe try linking your server to tail scale. It will also access your server remotely ---------------------------------------------------------------------- leoklaus · 2023-11-18 08:28 Are you iPad and iPhone in another Wifi network by chance? Like a guest network or a separate 2.4/5Ghz network (the latter really shouldn’t matter, but it may be worth a shot). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TeamPantofola · 2023-11-18 08:34 No no it’s the same network. Could it be that my pled serve does not let them access for some reason? Another odd thing is that jellyfin app is not listed in settings of iPhone iPad, like it’s not on the device. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- leoklaus · 2023-11-18 08:39 Unless you manually configured your server to block them, it’s very unlikely. Not all apps are visible in settings, that’s perfectly normal. You could also try [SwiftFin](https://apps.apple.com/de/app/swiftfin/id1604098728?l=en- GB) and make sure to use http, not https when entering your servers ip (i.e. http://192.168.0.10 instead of https://192.168.0.10). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Eli_Garcia360 · 2023-11-20 22:42 I had the same problem with an iOS app, the issue was with the https certificate, but the web browser should work fine. Try to check ping from you iPhone just to make sure the is no connectivity issue ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TeamPantofola · 2023-11-20 23:21 What is ping?
