Installing Harvester on Proxmox Using netboot.xyz reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _jmcglock_ · 2023-11-17 00:22 So I recently saw the netboot xyz TechnoTim video. I wanted to see if I could install Harvester on top of Proxmxx using netboot xyz. I made this cool little guide on it. I hope you all enjoy! That beeing said, i dont think there are many people using this tutorial other than for testing etc. For them it might be useful. Thanks for Posting ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JzJad12 · 2023-11-17 06:49 Nested virtualization for the win! Haha ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No_Dragonfruit_5882 · 2023-11-17 06:52 I usually run this setup. Proxmox => truenas => vmware vcenter => Virtualbox => vmware workstation => Hyper-V. Ask me how i passthrough shit xDDDD ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tall-Aside4852 · 2023-11-17 12:44 Okay I'm tempted XD How do you passthrough shit? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No_Dragonfruit_5882 · 2023-11-17 13:10 With a lot of alcohol. I passthrough shit with a lot of alcohol. Nah seriously if you can passthrough shit with that config that has to be some sort of World record ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jfernand3z · 2023-11-17 14:26 What's your use case? A self-hosted TOR network? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No_Dragonfruit_5882 · 2023-11-17 14:37 Its obviously a joke lol. And why Tor? It does not help anything if you got multiple nested vm's. If you really want to host a Tor exit, a single pc is all you need. + dont put Lv1 Hypervisors on top of each other. There is no security benefit. It actually makes your Systems more vulnerable to attacks since you are using more Software. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _jmcglock_ · 2023-11-17 15:21 Exactly. It makes no sense to install Harvester on top of Proxmox. Since I could technically do it tho, I had to try it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jfernand3z · 2023-11-17 16:57 I mostly meant in the sense that your packets go through 3 endpoints before they reach your network. Obviously if they're all in the same machine and the fact that there's no encapsulation and different levels of encryption it's completely useless ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mafen1 · 2023-11-18 23:22 you forgot parallels desktop ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GWBrooks · 2023-12-04 02:43 Drive-by comment: I am struggling mightily with getting any sort of Kubernetes setup working, and your Substacks and tutorials have been \*amazing.\* Thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- _jmcglock_ · 2023-12-04 03:41 Thank YOU!
