Need advice to buy a NUC reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iQuickGaming · 2023-11-16 20:01 hi, i currently have a Raspberry Pi 4 and im hosting Home Assistant, PiHole, NextCloud and some small projects i made. I would like to host Jellyfin, Bitwarden and some other stuff aswell. Also my storage is literally 2 USB sticks of 32 GB each in a RAID 0 config. I'd like to buy a NUC or something similar to be able to plug some HDDs and configure them in RAID1 so i have redundancy, i also need some 1080p encoding capabilities and it doesn't have to consume too much power. Which NUC would you recommend? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pooamalgam · 2023-11-16 20:13 It's not a NUC, but it seems like an [Odroid- H3+](https://ameridroid.com/products/odroid-h3?variant=40896197820450) would probably work well for your needs. It has two SATA ports for HDDs and the N6005 CPU would be able to handle 1080p encoding reasonably well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-16 20:16 Try subs that actually are more about hardware, maybe /r/HomeServer /r/Homelab etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iQuickGaming · 2023-11-16 20:17 i forgot about those. Thanks a lot ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Sajberspejs · 2023-11-16 20:22 I don't think a nuc is a good idea. Get something with a few sata ports. You probably want at least one for the OS and and least 2 for your raid 1. But remember raid 1 is not a backup, it's higher availability. You can still loose everything without a proper backup. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GregPL151 · 2023-11-16 20:57 Used thin clients can be found cheap, offer good performance and you can always make a cluster out of them if you need. Or used mini PCs if you need more performance. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sk1nT7 · 2023-11-16 21:09 HM90 Nuc by Minisforum. Fits two 2.5" disks as well as an additional NVME onboard for the OS. 1. Install proxmox on the NVME 2. Create a TrueNAS VM and passthrough the SSD's into TrueNAS. Let TrueNAS handle the mirrored ZFS pool 3. Profit ---------------------------------------------------------------------- triksterMTL · 2023-11-17 01:21 I got a Synology NAS and run several Docker containers, including HA (that was on a Pi before). It works great! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-11-18 23:08 [removed]
