Stuttering in Jellyfin reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AreYouEvenReal2 · 2023-11-16 15:00 Having issues with the Jellyfin client. Won't play a 4K video without stuttering using Direct Play. Transcoding to a lower resolution seems to fix this issue. I know the laptop is capable because it can play 4K video in VLC just fine. It's got a 11800H and a RTX 3050 Ti. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ambitious_Mammoth482 · 2023-11-16 15:28 Could mean the network between your 2 machines is to slow (wifi?) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AreYouEvenReal2 · 2023-11-16 15:42 Same machine. It's a test setup of sorts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ambitious_Mammoth482 · 2023-11-16 15:48 then its maybe the client (browser?) which can not access the gpu (has no acceleration) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AreYouEvenReal2 · 2023-11-16 15:49 It's the app not the browser. As far as I know browsers use accelerated decoding anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ambitious_Mammoth482 · 2023-11-16 16:08 how do you run your server? as a docker container, vm or directly? i suspect something seems to limit the bandwidth. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AreYouEvenReal2 · 2023-11-16 16:36 Docker ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AreYouEvenReal2 · 2023-11-16 16:37 I should point out it's not buffering, rather it's micro stutters where it misses a few frames ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gohankr · 2023-11-16 18:15 It would be helpful if you can add screenshot of streaming detail from jellyfin dashboard ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zachfive87 · 2023-11-16 21:53 Ffmpeg logs and maybe head to the jellyfin forums, there are a lot of helpful people there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AreYouEvenReal2 · 2023-11-17 00:01 I thought ffmpeg isn't used when not transcoding ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ambitious_Mammoth482 · 2023-11-17 10:42 Docker Max Bandwith (quick google search): might be insufficient for high bitrate 4k content | Max Possible | Host mode | Bridge mode | | 740 Mbit/sec | 740 Mbit/sec | 580 Mbit/sec | | 100 % | 100 % | 80 % | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AreYouEvenReal2 · 2023-11-17 14:53 Have you seen those numbers? Unless you're using uncompressed 4K that shouldn't be an issue.
