Offline database for archiving data from different messengers? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MRCP_PC · 2023-11-15 15:30 I'm aware of messaging aggregators like Franz. What I am looking for is more simple. I want to set up a database with a suitable frontend, that allows me to add "message" objects. This system is meant for archiving only, I do not want or need to send messages from it. Message objects could come from backups of messaging apps like Telegram and WhatsApp, but it could also be email, or even handwritten letters that I scanned. In essence, I'm trying to build an archive for any personal messages that I receive and send. I'm happy with writing scripts to upload backed up data from messengers, but I would like a frontend that allows me to search for messages and lets me upload single item (for example letters) manually. Support for attachements display (image, video & audio) would be great. Can anyone recommend a good starting point for this or even ready solution for this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shadoodled · 2023-11-15 15:47 There was this post just hours ago https://reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/17vectm/chatvault_store_your_ whatsapp_messages/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Supertrinko · 2023-11-15 22:05 Great for WhatsApp, would love one that can absorb facebook data exports. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MRCP_PC · 2023-11-16 14:17 Ha, nice! Seems like other people are thinking in a similar way. Thank you for linking to this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- s3r3ng · 2023-11-16 20:42 I have recently started (only barely started) fulling around with NATS which is a sort of event stream pub/sub and request/reply system. If your source messaging systems publish events to NATs then other workers subscribed to those events could archive them or whatever. NATs clients exists for most languages. NATs server you can run yourself. Up to you what files and stuff you archive away. Many open source tools offer viewing playback appropriate to MIME type of file etc. Trick is noting and posting relevant events. Manual posting is very easy and even from command line. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MRCP_PC · 2023-11-17 14:41 Very interesting, thank you. What about frontend, are there any projects that you are aware of that offer views as you would find in a typical messenger?
