Best way to clone a Synology drive? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-11-15 11:00 I want to upgrade the storage in my DS220+ NAS , but I'm not sure of the best way to do it. I've simply placed in another drive before and copied over important data (Plex app data, media, etc), but now I have Docker instances and other apps I want to copy over, how would I do this? I'm also aware of things like the copy button, migration assistant and the fact that I can't read the drive on Windows (at least for free), so what's the best way to upgrade storage without losing anything? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hdddanbrown · 2023-11-15 11:26 A good idea would be to ask the /r/synology sub ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-11-15 11:28 That's true, I will do ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Prog · 2023-11-15 14:30 Do you only have one drive in it right now? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-11-15 14:31 yes, one 2TB drive that I'm wanting to upgrade to 2x 4TB drives so I have more storage and a good backup of my Plex media ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Prog · 2023-11-15 14:37 Put in one of your new 4TB drives, add it to the storage pool, wait for it to finish adding (it'll take a long time). Then prepare your old drive for removal. Once done, remove it and put in your second new drive, then add it to the pool. That's it! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- joelnodxd · 2023-11-15 14:38 that's exactly what I thought I had to do, thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Prog · 2023-11-15 14:39 Sure thing, no prob!
