NVR suggestions reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TekWarren · 2023-11-14 01:47 Looking for suggestions as "free" my wyze cams from the mess they are...enough said about that. I am starting with wyze cams and will flashing them to allow rtsp feeds. Things I want are pretty basic: Centralized recording. I want all recording stored in one place and easy to sift through. Mobile use is primary. We run a horse farm and check cams for various reason throughout the day pretty much exclusively from mobile devices (both iOS and Android). Would like live feeds and the ability to go through recorded. Remote access from mobile devices with the twist that we are on cellular internet (no concerns about data usage). Prefer not to have to deal with using VPN and keeping it simple especially for my wife who won't use it otherwise. Motion detection is something I can't rely on currently but occasionally it is good enough to be a helpful marker in 24/7 recording. That much would be nice, motion based markers when I don't know what I am looking for. Currently I only have two PC's to play with. One is a circa 2011 gaming build that is collecting dust. has a AMD CPU and nvidia GPU but not sure if its worth trying to use...can't even remember specs. I also have a NUC11 Pro gifted to me when I mentioned this project. That has an i7 and 32GB ram, 1TB SSD, intel irus iGPU. Impressed with it actually. I have about a dozen cameras and plans for more. Wifi is decent around the farm using unify meshpoints. -Controller is running on the NUC, one unifi AP pro in the house but no other gear and can't really afford to to get into more of that gear as much as I would like to but in a nutshell, the cams work well as they sit just wanting to break out of the limitations of current ecosystem and subscription jamming. Thanks to anyone who read all this and provides feedback. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- janstadt · 2023-11-14 02:17 Frigate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Lionrar · 2023-11-14 02:40 Blue iris probably would be the best bet if you use a phone primarily. Frigate is good too but I don't like the web ui of it when viewing on the phone. Scrypted NVR is another one that probably has the best UI for the web/app. But they charge per camera. ($40/yr for 4 cameras + like $10 per camera or something like that) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- youunderstandok · 2023-11-14 04:42 This is the correct answer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- janstadt · 2023-11-14 04:55 Theres a nice frigate card/integration on HACS for home assistant. I use that for the 5 cameras i have. Works nicely. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gryd3 · 2023-11-14 06:31 Tried Frigate, went to Shinobi instead. Despite having issues with multiple feeds, I had better viewing experience with Shinobi. Why do you choose frigate? (Over 60 Cameras btw) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PlayerOnyxUwU · 2023-11-14 06:33 I was searching for the same thing, in my case I would try Kerberos.io because I didn't see a lot of youtube videos about it and I want to explore it. In their web there is a demo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- forwardslashroot · 2023-11-14 11:34 When I was using Zoneminder, I didn't have any issues with my Wyze cam. Now, I use Frigate, my wyze cam could not maintain its connection. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- janstadt · 2023-11-14 15:56 Im a heavy HA user and frigate has amazing integration (camera card, automations, media integration, etc). I tried shinobi as well but it just wasnt for me. Frigate with a coral tpu and you got a great setup.
