Guides for emulating PS2 / N64 on own NAS server reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- whe-shong · 2023-11-13 13:19 Hey all, Im building my own home media server with a synology ds920+ (16tb) and Im thinking of creating a PS2 and or N64 emulation for me and my buddies to be able to retro-game (seperate instances via nvidia shield pro) Are there any specific guides that I can check out or anyone that would help me? (Would pay you) ;) Ty ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-13 13:26 Retropi? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- whe-shong · 2023-11-13 13:54 Sure; but would the retropi be possible to connect to my server and pull roms? Could I share this retropi setup with my outside connections? Meaning: lets say my buddy has a shield pro and could hook up his USB controller, could he connect to my retropi via my server? Im such a noob, sorry ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-13 13:56 A Retropi runs on a RPi that costs 30$, it’s easier for your friend to get his own Retropi setup. Sure, you can use KVMoIP or any other remote application to share your RPi, but again, it’s 30$ and nVidia shield costs more than 4 times that much. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aetherspoon · 2023-11-13 14:09 You don't have to run the emulators on your NAS. In fact, you probably shouldn't since your NAS is unlikely to be plugged in to any video output. Pretty much anything can just point at your NAS's shares for access to any and all emulation. Heck, I think an Amazon Fire Stick can even do it. If your buddies want to bring over Shield Pros to play, all you should need to do is let them on to your WiFi and have read access to your roms or ISOs directory. So... I guess I'm not quite sure where you're going with the question? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- whe-shong · 2023-11-13 14:10 I think that helps me perfectly! I was thinking to complicated :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aetherspoon · 2023-11-13 14:11 Ahh, you were thinking more like "I want to make a server that my friends can play PS2 games from" rather than the fact that they're already bringing over everything they need? :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- whe-shong · 2023-11-13 14:26 Exactly! But I now realise that would be near impossible. Also input lag prolly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Heuristics · 2023-11-13 14:45 emulation-js is self hosted and runs in the browser ---------------------------------------------------------------------- whe-shong · 2023-11-13 14:55 Awesome!
