Digitize/scan all the documents using an iPhone? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Infinite100p · 2023-11-12 22:35 I am looking to scan all the documents that I need, but do not need the originals of. The built in Notes app offers pretty good scanning functionality, but exporting/syncing to non-Apple devices is a nightmare. I've heard about the **Paperless-ngx** document managment software. Does this software (**or some similar alternative**) have an iOS app that would make scanning hundreds/thousands of documents easy and streamlined? What is your setup for: 1. Scanning 2. Organizing 3. Accessing Thanks ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LavaCreeperBOSSB · 2023-11-12 22:51 If you just want to scan, maybe the notes app? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Infinite100p · 2023-11-12 23:15 >The built in Notes app offers pretty good scanning functionality, but exporting/syncing to non-Apple devices is a nightmare. >**The built in Notes app offers pretty good scanning functionality, but exporting/syncing to non-Apple devices is a nightmare.** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adecius · 2023-11-12 23:35 You can scan in the files app, it saves as a pdf file in the location you’ve navigated to. No need to use the notes app. You can do this directly to a file share, iCloud, or locally. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Infinite100p · 2023-11-12 23:43 Yes, I know that. I also read that Files app's scanning was producing bloated PDFs about 7 months ago. Perhaps, they have fixed it since then. The thing is that I also want to manage these documents and have global in-document contents indexing and search (so that I am not stuck with thousands of documents that I cannot locate quickly using keywords within them). Simply storing non-OCR PDFs as files won't give me that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shadoodled · 2023-11-13 00:39 I've been using Scanner Pro by Readdle to scan. I then created a workflow in the app the uploads the scanned document to paperless- ngx's consume folder that's shared via webdav. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Grizzlechips · 2023-11-13 01:24 Paperless-ngx is the service you want. The consume folder is the function you’re looking for. “No Paper App” is the iOS app you’re looking for, albeit pretty barebones scan-wise. Adobe Scan is probably better and more sophisticated, albeit slower. There’s really not much that is meant for scanning hundreds or thousands of documents quickly and efficiently outside of a dedicated top feed document scanner that is pre-set to PDF the way you want and dumping into the consume folder that Paperless churns through. You’ll have to likely generate tags ahead of time (ChatGPT is great for this), and then go through a few dozen examples of each type of document in your batch for Paperless to learn and tag correctly. There will be some manual metadata work at the beginning, but less as you go. The more you do, the better it’s going to get at auto- tagging. Paperless will OCR for you and has some really solid content-based search function. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- blink-2022 · 2023-11-13 02:00 I'm pretty happy with paperless ngx so far, got it up and running about 2 weeks ago. For best scan results, you are going to want a dedicated scanner with a feeder. Your initial scanning in will take a lot of time using your phone. The files app has an option to scan documents into a folder. You do not need to name each file in the app since you will be able to manage names once the document is in paperless NGX. Once scanned to a folder, you will be able to drop them into paperless NGX from the browser. Paperless NGX can be fully managed in the browser or using 3rd party apps. Paperparrot has been great so far. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PirateParley · 2023-11-13 02:33 I used genius scan before but they changed their subscription model but now I use quickscan. It is opensource if I am not wrong and admin is part of this group as well. I believe this apps works better as it creates smaller files than notes and files scan app. I use webdav to put in sorting folder of paperless-ngx and from their I tag and all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- chilanvilla · 2023-11-13 02:50 What is your issue with exporting from Notes? Docs scanned are still PDFs and easily shareable/exportable with one click with Airdrop/email etc. And I find the indexing excellent, so I drop everything into Notes now and forget about it, and when I need something, a simple search pulls it right up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Infinite100p · 2023-11-13 04:09 I want a central repo of all my documents that I can access from any device, not just Apple's ecosystem. Also, the documents contain health, tax etc. records, so I don't want to store them in the cloud. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Infinite100p · 2023-11-13 04:11 can paperless-ngx sort the contents of scans like Apple's Notes app can? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Infinite100p · 2023-11-13 04:56 Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fishfeet_ · 2023-11-13 05:57 Scan with files and upload to paperless ---------------------------------------------------------------------- turbanist · 2023-11-13 06:02 Paperless-ngx + Quickscan App, OCR is done on the phone and sent with a custom action to paperless-ngx. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- antoine849502 · 2023-11-13 07:33 1. Scanning: Nextcloud built in scanner is really good (iOS app) 2. Organizing: I have been searching this for a long time 3. Accessing: NextCloud?
