Help with JDownloader Self Host reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Munkey_Boy14 · 2023-11-12 15:21 Hi all, I'm just starting out in the self hosting journey and at present have successfully got Pi-Hole and Plex set up on an old Dell Optiplex using proxmox. I currently have portainer running on an LXC container and attempting to get JDownloader working, at present it works but I get an "Invalid download directory" which from googling comes from permission issues. In the portainer stack editor when setting up Jdownloader I had the following: \` volumes: \- "/docker/appdata/jdownloader-2:/config:rw" \- "/mnt/plex/download:/output:rw"\` In proxmox the owner of \`mnt/plex/download\` is root (UID 0 and GID 0) which have been modified in portainer as per the advice when googling the above issue, however I continue to get the "Invalid download directory" issue and have no clue where to go from here. Any help appreciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xtern · 2023-11-12 16:05 Why not using pyload? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Munkey_Boy14 · 2023-11-12 17:18 Not sure why I can't use JDownloader? I'm using it as it is something I'm familiar with and like to use ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DarkKnyt · 2023-11-12 18:58 If you are running your docker in an unprivileged lxc (which you should be) proxmox is going to change the UID/gid to a low number. I'm assuming that in the docker lxc you correctly mounted /mnt/plex and you can touch/remove files on there? If not, your folder mount is wrong to the lxc. If you can, and are using docker compose, there is probably an environment value to set the UID/GID of the user for jdownloader. Set this to root or some other user that has the right access on your lxc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Munkey_Boy14 · 2023-11-12 19:09 Thanks for the reply. 1) Yes the docker lxc is running as an unprivileged container 2) Yes if I SSH into the IP of the instance running docker than my files in /mnt/plex/download appear in there from my host system 3) Yes in portainer there is an environment variable for USER_ID and GROUP_ID which I have set as 0 for both (as this is the root user ID and Group ID for the host system) as the trouble shooting said JDownloader will need to use these to be able to write into the directory on the host system but no joy. If I change the folder to download the files to on the host system it works fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DarkKnyt · 2023-11-12 20:14 Regarding number two, you can see your files but what are the permissions on those files? Problems I've had before were that the permissions were correct but the ACLs were not, if you have that set up. Another thing was that when I had mounted that folder into an LXC it had marked it as immutable even though that doesn't show up in the basic ls. When your SSHed into the instance with docker can you create a random file in that mnt plex folder? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Munkey_Boy14 · 2023-11-12 20:26 Understood thanks. On the host system for the folder /mnt/plex it is the following drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 12 14:21 download drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 36864 Nov 9 17:42 Extras drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Aug 29 07:45 Movies When SSH'd in to the docker instance the /mnt folder is empty. If I log into WINSCP using the IP of the docker instance then navigating to /mnt shows the /plex folders as expected. Hopefully that makes sense. The jdownloader install has /mnt/plex/download mapped to /ouput in the container. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Xtern · 2023-11-12 21:32 nobody said that. was just curious. pyload is way less ressource hungry ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DarkKnyt · 2023-11-12 22:22 I feel that winscp is lying to you. How'd you mount that path in the docker lxc? Proxmox GUI? By the way I'm just encouraging you to keep on going. Permissions from the host to an lxc to a docker is a huge pain in the butt but really is the right way to do it and folks should not run privileged containers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Munkey_Boy14 · 2023-11-13 04:47 I added the mount point using the terminal in Proxmox on the host. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- munchee · 2023-11-13 07:46 Can pyload use realdebrid as the URL resolver?
