Samba corrupted names reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mayo551 · 2023-11-11 09:56 I'm uploading files to samba and ls -l is showing corrupted names. Samba continues to work. How can I fix this? The file names should be something like 11/10/13, 10/26/26 PM.jpeg but are instead showing as this: [https://i.imgur.com/XA8O1U6.jpg](https://i.imgur.com/XA8O1U6.jpg) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DecideUK · 2023-11-11 11:45 Don't use / in filenames it isn't an allowed character. Perhaps it is getting replaced with a different unicode slash that looks similar to a / but can't be displayed properly in the shell. But just don't use /, it'll cause you pain. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-11-11 15:40 It isn't corruption, it is an encoding issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-11 20:26 > The file names should be something like 11/10/13, 10/26/26 PM.jpeg What kind of fetish is that ffs... use proper filenames and paths. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mayo551 · 2023-11-11 20:58 It's what the Mac shortcuts use when you set the name as the date and time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DecideUK · 2023-11-11 21:35 Not really familiar with shortcuts - but I would be looking to reformat that date before renaming the files. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/shortcuts-mac/apd8d9b19184/mac ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ModeratorIsNotHappy · 2023-11-12 03:04 Shortcuts lets you choose various date formats. Slashes is most likely the default but you should definitely change it for filenames
