Bare Metal install of paperless-ngx reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eqchin · 2023-11-10 23:24 Hi there, I wanted to give paperless-ngx a try because I really like the idea and the feature it provides therefore tried to install it on my Ubuntu. I followed these instructions: [https://docs.paperless- ngx.com/setup/#bare\_metal](https://docs.paperless- ngx.com/setup/#bare_metal) But for some reason whenever I try to run " sudo -Hu paperless python3 manage.py migrate" all I get is a "ImportError: cannot import name 'IpWare' from 'ipware' (/usr/lib/python3/dist- packages/ipware/\_\_init\_\_.py)" error. Anyone an idea what could be going wrong here? I think I really need to have a look at docker, it probably would simplify live for me... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-10 23:43 Yes, it would. Any reason why you stick to bare metal installs? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-11 00:00 One of the great benefits of using containers is that things like the correct Python version and required packages in their exact versions can be included in the image, and you dont need to deal with any of that. Why make it more complicated and harder for yourself by trying to run it baremetal? If you insist on doing it that way, then why not ask for help on the paperless-ngx Github page? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 007craft · 2023-11-11 06:47 Linux is case sensitive. "Cannot import name 'IpWare' from 'ipware'" - maybe its something wrong with the code in that package. Open it and see if theres a discrepancy for that word and the case. Or ask in the git forum to raise an issue for the developer, or better yet, just use docker! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eqchin · 2023-11-11 10:40 No particular reason, was just lazy to dive into docker but gave it up and it took me like an hour to set up paperless-ngx and immich via docker. Just made it so much simpler than trying to get a bare metal installation and in case of immich there is not even one available, it's docker only. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- austozi · 2023-11-12 21:11 https://github.com/paperless-ngx/paperless-ngx/issues/3403
