Hardware enough for my configuration? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- maxmayer93 · 2023-11-10 11:21 Been thinking of setup a nice box to handle most of my things: J4125 with a pci-ex 2x Intel nic, 16gb ram, Pico Psu 120W 3x8TB with mergerfs and snapraid nightly jobs OS: Alpine linux (I'm not a proxmox fan tbh) in data mode with a usb ssd as package cache. Dockers: * scrutiny * uptimekuma * watchtower * jellyfin * qbittorrent * shoko+shokofin * radarr * sonarr * jackett * tachidesk * wireguard * authelia * vaultwarden * jellystat * home assistant * cloudflared * nextcloud * photoprism 1 pfsense VM with pcie nic passed through to handle my internet and motherboard lan dedicated to management. My internet is 1gbit symmetric fiber. Been bugging me that maybe the raw power isn't enough to handle all the load (not worried about dockers but mostly quality of my pfsense vm) Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GolemancerVekk · 2023-11-10 11:28 I don't think you should have an issue doing routing. You can try it and see how it goes. If it turns out too taxing perhaps you can consider getting an OpenWRT-capable dedicated router. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- maxmayer93 · 2023-11-10 11:38 Yeah, I know that splitting services is a better approach but wanted to handle most of it on the box since it would be small and definitely wife approved tucked in some furniture with good ventilation ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-10 11:57 No, 16GB RAM is not enough. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- maxmayer93 · 2023-11-10 12:01 Can you elaborate ? What are the main ram consumer in those ? VM should be plenty good with less than 4 gb and the other docker containers are definitely not ram hungry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-10 12:07 Set it up and see for yourself. Hypotheticals are useless. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- maxmayer93 · 2023-11-10 12:20 yeah, no transcoding there btw. Only on client side but I did answer only to your comment that stated that it wasn't enough. Will try and check ram consumption ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-10 12:21 No problem, thanks for the downvote by the way. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- maxmayer93 · 2023-11-10 12:39 ehr i'm pretty sure I didnt ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-11-10 14:42 My setup is not too different and the system uses less than 3gb. I’m more concerned about transcoding than memory
