Nginx Proxy Manager not starting and throwing 'Operation not permitted' error inside container. reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3xgtee · 2023-11-09 22:39 Hello, I'm pretty new to using Docker and Nginx and I have been running into an issue running Nginx from a docker compose file. When running the up command it looks like the container is started but if I check the container logs the only records I see for 'npm' output the following message: "exec /init operation not permitted". I always spin the containers up using sudo but the issue persists. I am using Ubuntu 22.04 and docker was installed using Snap. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-09 22:42 Do not install Docker with snap. Uninstall it completely and then install it following the official documentation by adding the Docker repo and installing it from there. This here is neither /r/Docker or /r/NginxProxyManager ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3xgtee · 2023-11-09 22:44 Thanks for the advice. Figured it was applicable since I am using them for a self hosted solution. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Do_TheEvolution · 2023-11-09 22:59 I am on archlinux for my docker host, and its insane how cluster fuck ubuntu feels when dealing with docker... like why is it not in offiical repo and why is snap fucked as it is? Why do I have to read [this all bullshit](https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/ubuntu/) to make informed decision? Anyway, I am sticking with archlinux and lts kernel, for noobs its endevourOS... and also I am prefer [caddy for reverse proxy](https://github.com/DoTheEvo/selfhosted-apps- docker/tree/master/caddy_v2) over npm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3xgtee · 2023-11-09 23:07 Thanks, not completely sold on Ubuntu. Might have to check out some other options. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Do_TheEvolution · 2023-11-09 23:15 Well, full disclosure, I use archlinux because its my main desktop OS and feel most comfortable with it. Most serious linux admin frown on arch as linux server OS.. as its not business tier oriented distro with its bleeding edge quick adoption of stuff. On the other hand its extremely popular, archlinux subreddit is the largest distro subreddit of them all... and if you have proper backups/snapshots you dont need to fear updates. But as I said, its not really for noobs unless they are ready to learn and go neck deep... but then its probably the best for learning linux as its kinda lego linux, you put together what you want.
