LibreBudgeteer - A self-hosted budgeting app with automatic transaction synchronization reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- B0RSCHT1789 · 2023-11-08 22:04 Hello community, I wanted to share my project, LibreBudgeteer, that my partner and I use for monthly budgeting. [https://github.com/mzakharo/librebudgeteer](https://github.com/mzakha ro/librebudgeteer) Here are some highlights of this project: \- [mint.com](https://mint.com) style budgets \- Uses [plaid.com](https://plaid.com) for syncing transactions (Available to USA & Canada) to a self-hosted database \- Automatic transaction sync rules: filtering and re-categorization. There are some features of [mint.com](https://mint.com) missing, but notable improvements over [mint.com](https://mint.com) and other similar services are: \- no duplicate transactions \- substring matching in transaction rules \- Multiple users/clients supporting couples budgeting. \- No ads, free as in beer. You own your data. Use of [plaid.com](https://plaid.com) service is optional ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mrjfilippo · 2023-11-09 00:07 With mint.com going away by next year, I was on the lookout for a replacement. This might do the trick. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- onedr0p · 2023-11-09 03:34 I'm curious to know what's the reason for using a timeseries database over a rdbms? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ConsistentRice6971 · 2023-11-09 12:05 Does it have a mobile app companion? Does support multiple currencies? Does it have multi lenguaje support? I'm using Wallet by budgetbackers, but I want to move to a selfhosted option... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- B0RSCHT1789 · 2023-11-09 12:47 rdbms feels like a natural fit here. However, I am more familiar with the timeseries, it is what I already run for sensor/Home assistant/Grafana. The app is still missing long-term historical data analysis visualization, so Grafana fits the bill at the moment. Below is an example query answering a question of 'how have I been doing on Groceries for the past year'. `from(bucket: "bucket")` `|> range(start: -1y)` `|> filter(fn: (r) => r["_measurement"] == "transactions")` `|> filter(fn: (r) => r["category"] == "Groceries" )` `|> keep(columns: ["_time", "_value"])` `|> aggregateWindow(every: 1mo, fn: sum)` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- B0RSCHT1789 · 2023-11-09 12:59 Project front end is a mobile app. English only for now, translations pull requests are welcome. As for multiple currencies, not at the moment. Plaid supports multiple currencies, but I dont know how will aggregation/visualization would work in the app, since multiple currencies dont add up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Discommodian · 2023-11-10 02:31 Any plans on an iOS app? Is there any way to just access the dashboard from a Web Page instead? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- B0RSCHT1789 · 2023-11-10 02:45 I do not own any iFruit hardware, so can't help with iOS port. It is a Flutter app, so in theory it could be tweaked to compile to iOS and Web targets. Patches welcome. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- breakthestatic · 2023-11-14 20:24 Anyone try using this with some of the larger banks that utilize oauth with Plaid (e.g. Chase, CapitalOne, etc.)? I tried setting up another self-hosted financial app that offered a Plaid integration, but the account linking process for Plaid development accounts didn't support several of my financial institutions, so I was unable to pull a large portion of my transactions. I wasn't sure if that was the case with this app as well, or if its account linking implementation is able to handle these oauth accounts. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- B0RSCHT1789 · 2023-11-14 21:40 >I tried setting up another self-hosted financial app that offered a Plaid integration, but the account linking process for Plaid development accounts didn't support several of my financial institutions, so I was unable to pull a large portion of my transactions. It is my understanding that you cannot access Chase,CapitalOne, until you request production Oauth token from plaid (not the sandbox envrionment you get by default when you sign up), and then you get Free 100 account lifetime limit. Please let me know if this isnt the case. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- breakthestatic · 2023-11-15 00:29 Yeah, that's what I came across but was naively hopeful that perhaps you had found a magical workaround :D Once you sign up for production access you have to start paying regardless (according to another reddit thread where someone reached out to Plaid). Additionally, some institutions, such as Chase, have their own independent toggles within Plaid as well and require a robust security plan to be enabled - the general thought being a personal/individual user would likely not be granted this access. I understand the concerns surrounding security, but there should be ways for users to easily get read-only access to their own data. Either way, I'm excited to check your app out! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- B0RSCHT1789 · 2023-11-15 01:15 I guess I am lucky plaid does not consider Canadian banks worthy of gating with production requirements. Who knows how long this will last. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any other service like plaid. In the mean time, you are free to manually download csv files from your bank and parse them into the database.
