But it is so fucking complicated. You need to put in place all the authorization/authentication stuff for NFS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- webtroter · 2023-11-08 22:12 SMB for my clients, NFS between my servers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ADB-UK · 2023-11-08 22:15 Depends what is talking to what... There are still the odd AFP shares floating around for my iMac. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mysterius_ · 2023-11-08 22:22 Hey, leave my mom out of this ! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- LavaCreeperBOSSB · 2023-11-08 22:25 AFP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Critical_Egg_913 · 2023-11-08 22:27 Fiberchannel or iscsi ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JustDalek_ · 2023-11-08 22:36 exFat /s ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ervwalter · 2023-11-08 22:37 Yes, both. Can anyone confirm if that is the case? So SMB for the time being. Which is a shame bc I run Linux on all my computers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- cameos · 2023-11-09 00:17 >But it is so fucking complicated. Not anymore for Windows 10/11 with WSL2, just mount NFS from the WSL side and Windows 10/11 will see them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UntouchedWagons · 2023-11-09 00:48 SMB for windows clients, NFS for Linux clients. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- webtroter · 2023-11-09 01:01 Oh shit yeah, that should work ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ooviixoo · 2023-11-09 01:57 \#3 iscsi ---------------------------------------------------------------------- KrazyKirby99999 · 2023-11-09 03:04 Syncthing ---------------------------------------------------------------------- migsperez · 2023-11-09 03:24 Why is NFS better? When I've tested both, I've found performance was better with SMB. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Z8DSc8in9neCnK4Vr · 2023-11-09 05:43 NFS has better reliability and for most is faster, [https://blog.ja- ke.tech/2019/08/27/nas-performance-sshfs-nfs- smb.html](https://blog.ja-ke.tech/2019/08/27/nas-performance-sshfs- nfs-smb.html) I briefly ran SAMBA (SMB) I was not a fan, when I ditched my last windows box I want to NFS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ouroborus23 · 2023-11-09 06:34 Your mother is a magnificent human being, she deserves great respect and I would never make fun of her. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- junialter · 2023-11-09 09:42 You're mother would more be like FAT128 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- junialter · 2023-11-09 09:43 Yeah performance is one thing but there are other aspects to it. NFS is mostly run with IP based authentication, which is a security nightmare. If you want used based authentication with NFS things will get much more complicated, so SMB is on top for sure here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ZAFJB · 2023-11-09 12:46 What's the point of this? What are you usefully going to do with the data? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Z8DSc8in9neCnK4Vr · 2023-11-09 13:21 In a multi user environment (business) to get user based authentication under nfs you need a keyberose server, I have never done such but from what I have read it is non trivial to set up. At home the inside of my subnet is trusted so IP is plenty. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Z8DSc8in9neCnK4Vr · 2023-11-09 13:32 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_File_System Nfs is a network file sharing protocol.
