Recommendations for SMTP server reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- uaxfive · 2023-11-08 16:11 I'm looking for suggestions on a good, but simplistic SMTP server. Yes, I know people always recommend against self-hosting one. However, I don't plan to use it for general email. It will only be used by local services to send alerts to my gmail account. Bonus points if it can be ran in a docker container and/or is available on Unraid. Can take the traditional route and spin up a VM if needed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Legitimate_Farm_3095 · 2023-11-08 16:12 a good place to start is searching the sub for "smtp server" as this comes up frequently ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Go_F1sh · 2023-11-08 16:23 smtp2go is free and you dont have to host it yourself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ADB-UK · 2023-11-08 16:40 Second this - took me longer to get their verification mail (all of a 3 mins delay) than to signup and get my Synology sending me messages. Totally painless and been 100% reliable so far. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bloodrose_GW2 · 2023-11-08 16:40 I prefer exim4. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arnoldtechllc · 2023-11-08 16:49 3rd vote for smtp2go ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jerwong · 2023-11-08 16:58 If you want something powerful but has a steeper learning curve: Sendmail If you want something simpler to set up: Postfix ---------------------------------------------------------------------- froid_san · 2023-11-08 17:28 is an smtp relay not an option if its just for outgoing mail? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TensyL · 2023-11-08 18:09 iRedMail was pretty painless to get going. Otherwise Postfix (which iRedMail is built on top of anyways). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JaAnoooSlovakia · 2023-11-08 18:12 This ---------------------------------------------------------------------- helmut72 · 2023-11-08 19:25 If you just send alerts to your Google account, use Googles SMTP!? For example search for 'alertmanager gmail smtp'. It's the same configuration for other services too... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 12_nick_12 · 2023-11-08 19:27 AmazonSES is great.
