Best option in 2023 for IOS photos backups? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dubl_x · 2023-11-08 15:07 I have a pi 4 4gb, and an external SSD. What are my best options here? Ideally it would be an automatic background backup, without having to open the app. Bonus points if i could create an automatic backup to S3. I took a look at nextcloudpi, and it seems to be close to what i want, but i was just wondering if theres something more lightweight since it has a lot of stuff i wont use, like calendars and contacts etc. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- oAhT_iAs · 2023-11-08 15:17 [Immich ](https://github.com/immich-app/immich) is the best. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Resident_Flan1480 · 2023-11-08 15:25 You can try Photosync. With Photosync you can copy/move/sync your iOS photos to various destinations, i.e. FTP, SMB and others. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dubl_x · 2023-11-08 15:26 That looks perfect. I like that it keeps metadata, nextcloud doesnt seem to do that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dubl_x · 2023-11-08 15:27 Will take a look thanks. If i can just have the SSD plugged into my router as a nas then it frees up my pi for other stuff :) cheers ---------------------------------------------------------------------- oAhT_iAs · 2023-11-08 15:31 Yup, they just added external libraries recently. So you can add ur existing folder of photos to read off from it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- srijansaxena11 · 2023-11-08 15:34 It should. Checkout Memories app on Nextcloud. It's my Google Photos self-hosted alternative. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ella_Mental_ · 2023-11-08 16:02 Trojan or Durex? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spaceman_Splff · 2023-11-08 19:28 Does it have auto upload like nextcloud yet or do you still need to use a middle man app like PhotoSync? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tiwenty · 2023-11-08 19:30 I just use PhotoSync to sync via SFTP. Then you can use whatever suit your needs to view them. You can sync to S3 with it too. And it works in the background at night when the phone is plugged in. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- oAhT_iAs · 2023-11-08 19:40 Yes it auto uploads. Immich has a official iOS and Android app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-11-08 21:36 It's had auto-upload since pretty much day 1. Are you thinking of something else? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Spaceman_Splff · 2023-11-08 23:39 Maybe I’m thinking of photoprism. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dubl_x · 2023-11-08 23:53 Does that require a pro/premium version? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CactusBoyScout · 2023-11-09 00:17 So it will backup automatically without me having to open the app? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- oAhT_iAs · 2023-11-09 01:03 Yes, just go to the settings. For the initial setup if u have a lot of photos you want to have the app open to sync some of the photos, then after that you're good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Tiwenty · 2023-11-09 14:19 Seems like auto sync and S3 are in the premium package yeah :/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- t0myv1 · 2023-11-09 15:47 PhotoSync, or DS Moments autobackup to your own NAS :)
