Help setting opp email server LXC container or VM in proxmox. reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- misbruker · 2023-11-08 06:17 Hi! I would like to set up a self hosted email server for storage and access to my [@mydomail.com](mailto:post@mydomail.com) adresses. i currently dont have a goood solution other than routing my emails through cloudflare and forwarding them to my gmail account wich is not optimal at all. ideealy are a LXC container or VM taking care of storage an spam filters, prefferably an IMAP server i can access through thunderbird or webmail interface. i love all the script installs and they have all worked perfectly for me as i am fairly new to proxmox, i absolutely love the hypervisor and how easy the transition was for the applications i use. Is this possible and could someone provide me a guide if there is one? english is not my native language so i might mistyped or wrote something wrong but hope i made myself undestandable. also a bit difficoult to knwo what to google and understanding the results as i am new to mail servers asswell. Any inputs are highly appriciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- shadoodled · 2023-11-08 06:30 You'll probably get plenty of comments not to do it. Self-hosting an email server is easy. Getting your email delivered without being flagged as spam is the hard part. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- misbruker · 2023-11-08 06:43 Thanks for your input. any thoughts on what will be the best/safest and not to expencive option then? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- misbruker · 2023-11-08 07:00 [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_z6do5BSJmg](https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=_z6do5BSJmg) will this be a good solution or will my mails till be flaged as spam? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zarlo5899 · 2023-11-08 07:01 mail cow every thing runs in docker and has a simple setup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Firm_Expert_6637 · 2023-11-08 07:03 Message HARRY__SPEEF On Instagram he can help you out ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-08 07:14 I find this cover image of that video offensive, because Exchange is selfhosting email. Poor Exchange, getting all the hate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-08 07:16 The only thing that matters, besides PTR, SPF, DKIM and what not, is that the MTA is sending from a reputable IP. This is mostly only possible from a known business range of IP’s (aka business internet connection). Not from VPS, not from any other cloud hoster, because if just one of these IP’s in that subnet starts spamming all IP’s from that subnet will be flagged as “untrusted”. Some providers like the Telecom even don’t trust your IP at all for the first time and you have to write them to authorize your IP to send emails to them. Besides that, selfhosting email is awesome. I selfhost my email since almost 20 years, and do now for thousands of people and tens of thousands of emails a day, with great success and little to no administration overhead.
