How is everyone doing LiveTV self hosted in 2023? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yepitsatyhrowaway2 · 2023-11-07 08:51 I am looking for something that will auto "map channels" under Settings>LiveTV>TV guide data providers in Jellyfin, preferably a docker container. I am currently using Cabernet with docker compose and I enjoy it, but it still had its wrinkles to iron out to get it working. Cabernet *did* auto map Xumo and Daddylive, but I can not get it to fill the info in for PlutoTV. Are there other alternatives besides FHDHR and Threadfin? I tried those and they did not work for me. Threadfin - seems to double the necessary workflow requiring you to enable each channel in the GUI manually, currently bulk edit doesnt work. Either way you would still need to map each channel manually after exposing them to JF. Had issues with container running as root in docker image despite compose config. FHDHR - had several major issues with the docker setup and I could not get it working properly. Also had issues with container running as root in docker image despite compose config as well. specs: ubuntu 22.04 docker compose 32gb ddr4/ ryzen5 igpu only sources: [https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin](https://github.com/jellyfin/jel lyfin) [https://github.com/cabernetwork/cabernet](https://github.com/cabernet work/cabernet) [https://github.com/Threadfin/Threadfin](https://github.com/Threadfin/ Threadfin) [https://github.com/fHDHR/fHDHR](https://github.com/fHDHR/fHDHR) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OhK4Foo7 · 2023-11-07 13:40 No matter how I set it up I can never seem to get Pluto TV to work reliably. My favorite channel to test is Pluto TV Staff Picks. It seems to have the most trouble. When it switches to commercial it just locks up. I have tried using streamlink as explained here: [https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/](https://cgomesu.com/blog/Tvhlink/) That seems to work about the best. But I use Kodi and the tvheadend pvr addon. Have experimented with it a long time now. Pluto TV seems to be the most troublesome of the links you find at [https://i.mjh.nz/](https://i.mjh.nz/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OhK4Foo7 · 2023-11-07 13:44 Also, if you just use the links for epg and playlist it will have no trouble mapping in jellyfin. For example: [https://i.mjh.nz/PlutoTV/us.m3u8](https://i.mjh.nz/PlutoTV/us.m3u8) [https://i.mjh.nz/PlutoTV/us.xml.gz](https://i.mjh.nz/PlutoTV/us.xml.g z) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jwt4000 · 2023-11-07 14:49 I clicked on this expecting antenna TV information. This is neat too though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sizeofanoceansize · 2023-11-07 15:23 So glad I seen this post. I’ve been wanting to get Live Sports set up on my Plex server for ages and I had never heard of Cabernet before. Spent an hour setting it up earlier with DaddyLive and it’s all working perfectly! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fjmerc · 2023-11-07 17:49 IPTV > EPG > xTeVe > Plex ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yepitsatyhrowaway2 · 2023-11-07 19:24 this took me a long time to figure out, thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yepitsatyhrowaway2 · 2023-11-07 19:24 This is what my post was *really* about! I feel your pain, I have been dead set on getting pluto tv working as well - without the commercial interruption - so far i havent eliminated the issue completely especially for plutotv, but it does work consistently when they are not commercials. I believe cabernet has the same options regarding streamlink! I have seemed to find the most success with streamlink proxy for the pluto playlists, but there are several options. They can be found under; Cabernet web ui > Settings Editor - Stream Providers > Player >Stream\_type>/default/m3u8redirect/internalproxy/s treamlinkproxy/ffmpegproxy Each section has"help" info so if you hover over the selection the author has done their best to label out conflicting settings, this has helped me alot so thank you to the author! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mausterio · 2023-11-07 19:27 Personally after months of tweaking and testing I ended up using GetChannels to handle "official" sources (HDHR, PlutoTV, etc) and then feed the GetChannels m3u to Jellyfin/Emby. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CountParadox · 2023-11-07 20:21 Xteve can do what you want, you feed it a bunch of IPTV playlists, some epgs, and it gives you a single output playlist and epg of the channels you select ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OhK4Foo7 · 2023-11-07 20:25 It doesn't fix the problem he is talking about with Pluto TV though. Xteve is pretty handy. There is just no solution I have found that will keep streams from locking up on commercials. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CountParadox · 2023-11-07 20:35 Am I missing something about plutotv in the OP? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OhK4Foo7 · 2023-11-07 20:43 Not dissing xteve, I like it a lot. But one problem I found with it was it only works with m3u playlists that include a group tag. This playlist for example does not: [https://i.mjh.nz/Plex/us.m3u8](https://i.mjh.nz/Plex/us.m3u8) No way to filter on it in xteve. It just will not show up. You have to use this playlist instead, that breaks out the streams by US or Canada: https://i.mjh.nz/Plex/all.m3u8 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OhK4Foo7 · 2023-11-07 20:48 Have kind of given up on trying to get Pluto TV working. The slyguy plugins for Kodi work about the best. But then there is no way to record the streams. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- OhK4Foo7 · 2023-11-07 21:00 Rereading the post I see that no you are not. In this case though cabernet does the same thing as xteve. Ddd playlists and epg to the m3u plugin. I was referring to the problem I have had where I could never get Pluto TV to play without locking up at commercials. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zombie__knight · 2023-11-07 21:11 Remindme! 4 days ---------------------------------------------------------------------- RemindMeBot · 2023-11-07 21:12 I will be messaging you in 4 days on [**2023-11-11 21:11:45 UTC**](htt p://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=2023-11- 11%2021:11:45%20UTC%20To%20Local%20Time) to remind you of [**this link **](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/17pq1ku/how_is_everyo ne_doing_livetv_self_hosted_in_2023/k89n8aq/?context=3) [**CLICK THIS LINK**](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=Remin dMeBot&subject=Reminder&message=%5Bhttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.reddit.com%2Fr%2F selfhosted%2Fcomments%2F17pq1ku%2Fhow_is_everyone_doing_livetv_self_ho sted_in_2023%2Fk89n8aq%2F%5D%0A%0ARemindMe%21%202023-11- 11%2021%3A11%3A45%20UTC) to send a PM to also be reminded and to reduce spam. ^(Parent commenter can ) [^(delete this message to hide from others.)] (https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=RemindMeBot&subject=Delete %20Comment&message=Delete%21%2017pq1ku) ***** |[^(Info)](https://www.reddit.com/r/RemindMeBot/comments/e1bko7/remind mebot_info_v21/)|[^(Custom)](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?t o=RemindMeBot&subject=Reminder&message=%5BLink%20or%20message%20inside %20square%20brackets%5D%0A%0ARemindMe%21%20Time%20period%20here)|[^(Yo ur Reminders)](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=RemindMeBot& subject=List%20Of%20Reminders&message=MyReminders%21)|[^(Feedback)](ht tps://www.reddit.com/message/compose/?to=Watchful1&subject=RemindMeBot %20Feedback)| |-|-|-|-| ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 007bane · 2023-11-07 22:29 Please tell me more about this ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yepitsatyhrowaway2 · 2023-11-08 01:13 Jellyfin has a dvr function built in, I am never gonna use it, but it basically set itself up and was literally 0 hassle. The instructions on the GitHub weren’t great. I had to do some googling to get it running but I can send over my docker compose to make things easier if you get stuck. I'm pretty new to the whole live TV setup scene and I'm currently trying to get things running with Cabernet on Jellyfin. Docker Compose Execution: I managed to get this part sorted: version: '3' services: cabernet: image: ghcr.io/cabernetwork/cabernet:latest ports: \- "6077:6077" volumes: \- /mnt/portainer/cabernetwork:/app/data This is up and running at http://192.168.0.101:6077/ Plugin Installation: Chose DaddyLive from the plugin options and installed it. Activating Stream Providers: Enabled it and clicked 'Save changes'. Restarting Cabernet: Did a quick reboot through the Cabernet web interface. Then, on Jellyfin: Went to add an M3U tuner under Live TV. Input the URL: http://192.168.0.101:6077 But, I've hit a roadblock with this error: "Alert: There was an error saving the TV provider. Please ensure it is accessible and try again." I am completely new to live TV setups, I'm at a bit of a loss. Any advice, tips, or step-by-step guidance would be really appreciated. I attempted to create a Reddit post to seek help and guide others who might face similar issues in the future, but for some reason, I received an 'This Post Is Not Allowed' message from the AutoModerator." ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WorriedDamage · 2023-12-18 07:09 Did you figure this out? Usually you need ownership of the mounted storage with user abc. Fix in composer file: container_name: cabernet Then run: (sudo) docker exec -it cabernet chown -R abc /app/data You can see logs at: docker logs cabernet
