Self-Hosted Alternatives to Pocket and Wallabag reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aandryyy · 2023-11-06 14:13 Hi everyone, I'm in search of a self-hosted alternative to Pocket. My attempt at using Wallabag wasn't successful; I encountered errors with DBs and an issue with Docker that caused high CPU usage ([detailed issue here](https://github.com/wallabag/docker/issues/387)). I'm looking for a reliable service that allows me to save and download articles, YouTube videos, and GitHub repos. It's essential to have support for multiple clients, including web and iOS. Wallabag had the features I needed, but since I can't get it to work, I'm wondering: what other services do you recommend? Or does anyone have a working docker compose file for Wallabag? Thanks in advance for your suggestions! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rrrmmmrrrmmm · 2023-11-06 15:43 [In the two day old thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/commen ts/17ny1xn/looking_for_pocket_self_hosted_option/) "Omnivore" was recommended but [there are some open issues](https://github.com/omnivore- app/omnivore/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+self+host). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- junkleon7 · 2023-11-07 02:43 Try this: ``` version: '3' services: wallabag: image: wallabag/wallabag environment: - MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD= - SYMFONY__ENV__DATABASE_DRIVER=pdo_mysql - SYMFONY__ENV__DATABASE_HOST=db - SYMFONY__ENV__DATABASE_PORT=3306 - SYMFONY__ENV__DATABASE_NAME=wallabag - SYMFONY__ENV__DATABASE_USER=wallabag - SYMFONY__ENV__DATABASE_PASSWORD= - SYMFONY__ENV__DATABASE_CHARSET=utf8mb4 - SYMFONY__ENV__DOMAIN_NAME= ports: - "85:80" volumes: - ./images:/var/www/wallabag/web/assets/images restart: always healthcheck: test: ["CMD", "wget" ,"--no-verbose", "--tries=1", "--spider", "http://localhost"] interval: 1m timeout: 3s depends_on: - db - redis db: image: mariadb environment: - MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD= volumes: - ./data:/var/lib/mysql restart: always healthcheck: test: ["CMD", "mysqladmin" ,"ping", "-h", "localhost"] interval: 20s timeout: 3s redis: image: redis:alpine restart: always healthcheck: test: ["CMD", "redis-cli", "ping"] interval: 20s timeout: 3s ``` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aandryyy · 2023-11-07 08:52 Unfortunately I still have the same issue :/ I switched to the not self hosted version of Ominivore since to self host it and expose it it seems to requre GCP functionalities. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- aandryyy · 2023-11-07 08:53 It is recommended and it is actually what I opted for but unfortunately it rely on GCP functionalities and therefore it seems it cant't be fully self hostable right now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rrrmmmrrrmmm · 2023-11-07 09:21 I know. It's [one of the issues I linked to](https://github.com/omnivore- app/omnivore/issues/25#issue-1134368549). Furthermore I think that nothing new happened in the selfhosted space during the two days this was asked before. ;) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcadianarcadian · 2023-11-08 12:08 wallabag: image: wallabag/wallabag:latest container_name: wallabag restart: unless-stopped environment: - TZ=Europe/Berlin - VIRTUAL_HOST=read.example.com - VIRTUAL_PORT=80 - SYMFONY__ENV__SERVER_NAME="read.example.com" - SYMFONY__ENV__DOMAIN_NAME=https://read.example.com - SYMFONY__ENV__MAILER_HOST=mail.example.com - SYMFONY__ENV__FROM_EMAIL="wallabag@example.com" - SYMFONY__ENV__MAILER_USER="" - SYMFONY__ENV__MAILER_PASSWORD="" - SYMFONY__ENV__FOSUSER_REGISTRATION=false - SYMFONY__ENV__FOSUSER_CONFIRMATION=false - SYMFONY__ENV__TWOFACTOR_AUTH=true - PUID=1000 - PGID=1000 volumes: - /opt/data/wallabag/data:/var/www/wallabag/data - /opt/data/wallabag/images:/var/www/wallabag/web/assets/images networks: - proxy-network ---------------------------------------------------------------------- clach04 · 2023-11-08 14:59 I think you are looking for 3 different apps: 1. read it later -like clone 2. video downloader 3. project (code, issues, releases, wiki) cloner I'm not aware of an app that does does all three. I think you will need separate apps. I'm not clear what functionality you are looking for for #1 but [https://github.com/go-shiori/shiori](https://github.com/go- shiori/shiori) \*\*might\*\* handle some of your needs. It does a better job than Wallabag for downloading articles but it does not track read-progress and does not have any clients other then web browser. I've started a Wallabag API clone [https://github.com/clach04/whatabag acack](https://github.com/clach04/whatabagacack) but it is not usable yet (I don't have the free time I want to make quicker progress :-(). I can recommend the non-self hosted Wallabag instance, cheap and those guys are very responsive. But I found the success rate of scraping was lower than I wanted.
