Is there a place to talk about getting fair exchange for your media server? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Green_Ad_7175 · 2023-11-06 08:33 We wanna walk on tippy toes here and never ever violate tos. Out of respect for this great sub is there a better place to have more ethical gray area conversations that may come up in the automated home media server space? I find it hard to find discussions on this and every time I do find them they always end up with boy scouts reminding everyone how amazing rules are in the comments. Does anyone out there appreciate bread or dough anymore? Innocent harmless hypothetical discussions only, of course ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hdddanbrown · 2023-11-06 08:53 gtfo ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-11-06 09:01 Are you talking about charging people to share your illegal acquired media content? If so: GTFO. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- notdoreen · 2023-11-06 09:14 You're gonna have to be more specific and use your big boy words here. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Green_Ad_7175 · 2023-11-06 09:24 Not gtfo as in we all follow the rules and you should too. You mean gtfo as in you're going to burn out our little gold mine so zip it.... Right? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ssagar186 · 2023-11-06 09:31 What ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Green_Ad_7175 · 2023-11-06 09:33 I wanna turn into the monster that this sub was created to destroy. No ads, I pinky pwomise. It's like how can ppl spend so much time and money building up a super car but say gtfo when a guy wants to go beyond the speed limit? Why make capable of 250 mph then? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Green_Ad_7175 · 2023-11-06 09:35 Chicken butt ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jkirkcaldy · 2023-11-06 09:51 Cars can be taken to places where it is legal to drive fast like race tracks etc. Servers can similarly perform duties that are completely legal and use the resources that you allocate. You also do not have to buy a supercar to drive to the supermarket. Similarly you don’t need the fastest server with the most storage if all you’re doing is running a couple of docker containers. What you’re tiptoeing around isn’t an ethical grey area. It’s straight up not allowed. If you want to discuss it search r/plexshares on google. But Plex does take action against these accounts. Ranging from banning the account to blocking an entire datacenter from hosting Plex. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- notdoreen · 2023-11-06 10:00 Bro I still have no idea what the fuck you're talking about... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bsmith149810 · 2023-11-06 10:54 Gotta love all the pearl clutchers smart enough to build out industrial grade systems and infrastructure while being seemingly too dumb to even acknowledge that maybe, just maybe the largest leaps and innovations within the tech space were born from the greyest and possibly plain evel areas. But hey keep following those rules while Bill Gates is vacuuming up every line of code ever pushed to GitHub, Tim Cook laughs all the way to the bank while riding on the backs of foss developers and you guys try explaining how awesome your super secret homelab is to someone you can’t even show it to because, believe it or not, against the rules. Sorry, not sorry. And op best I can offer is discord. I don’t really even know what discord is, but pretty sure it’s the land of rule free what even is this grey thing you speak of.
