Sonarr alternative for Anime? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scionae · 2023-11-05 21:19 Hey everyone. Been using sonarr for a few months, I have two instances, as per usual, one for normal shows and one for anime, same is with radarr. While with radarr I've had a good time in finding and grouping movies, it's been a NIGHTMARE with Sonarr. Mostly because of TVDB and how it recognizes shows. It's pretty bad, especially for shows like Sailor Moon, Aria the Animation or Pokèmon, don't get me started on Pokèmon man.......... I've found out about Shoko Server, and that's great because it gets data from AniDB and via hashes but... there comes the problem with automation. Shoko is just for management and metadata, not for downloading. So, is there any other app you people use that integrates well with Prowlarr / qBittorrent? Do you have a similar situation? If so, what do you use? For reference, I tried looking into Flexget and Shana Project but... it's not for me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- pewpewdev · 2023-11-05 23:17 Check out [https://trash-guides.info/Sonarr/](https://trash- guides.info/Sonarr/) I use Sonarr and followed this guide without too many issues over the last few years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- epsiblivion · 2023-11-06 00:11 If you want to use sonarr, you are encouraged to use english names but that is an issue for some releases depending how they’re named. What issues did you have with flexget? It provides the most options for setting names the way you want. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scionae · 2023-11-06 05:42 Trash Guides is what I'm using. I even pay for Notifiarr monthly, that's how much I use the whole stack together, but for anime it's just so bad (at least for big anime or multi-season ones like Sailor Moon)... I can't have 20 seasons of Pokèmon mushed together without proper season naming and with episodes flushed around... I had to import all my episodes manually, it was a pain in the ass ---------------------------------------------------------------------- daYMAN007 · 2023-11-06 14:48 Once you get through the endless runners the rest is painless. Current seasonal animes are also a no issue. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JinxedBeard · 2023-11-07 02:38 Why do you need two instances of Sonarr? Probably not the answer you after but, I setup a single instance of sonar for both TV and Anime along with Prowlarr and it has been working flawless for me over the last few years. I haven't tried the likes of Pokemon but shows like My Hero Academia and any of the current airing anime all work fine for me. I did follow the trash- guides to setup as well. One thing to check is the mapping data is correctly loading in Sonarr it comes from https://thexem.info/, check that it is has correct mapping info for the shows you are after, this is the data used by Sonarr to map different name and session/episode number conventions which is really important to get anime working properly in Sonarr. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- scionae · 2023-11-07 16:59 Wait, so I can map in Sonarr which of thexem's sources I get my info from? Did I get that right? If so, how do I do that? I can just switch to anidb and save myself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JinxedBeard · 2023-11-07 22:59 Sorry, no you aren't able to modify the mapping source that Sonarr uses as that is hardcoded last I checked and would require building a modified Sonarr yourself to change. This is annoying and at one stage I started setting up an alternative self hosted thexem but about that time users started more frequently updating thexem so I never finished it setting it up as it stopped being an issue for my anime use case. My suggestion was to check that the mappings were properly loading and if it is maybe propose updates to thexem to fix the mappings you need.
