Custom domain for homepage (gethomepage.dev) ? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- craveness · 2023-11-05 18:22 I would like to access my homepage using an internal DNS name. It's hosted on a debian based container. Has anyone been able to do this? Or, are there any guides out there? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- p3ab0dy · 2023-11-05 18:34 Setup up DNS to point gethomepage.dev to your internal ip. Some routers support this or use another DNS like bind, unbound, pihole, …. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- craveness · 2023-11-05 18:43 Not what I meant. I have homepage, this project: [https://github.com/g ethomepage/homepage](https://github.com/gethomepage/homepage) and can access it over [http://192.168.1.10:3000](http://192.168.1.10:3000) but want to configure it so it can be accessed with my internal domain, like [http://internal.mydomain.net](http://internal.mydomain.net). I did create an A record on my DNS server and looks like it loads. Not sure why it wasn't working before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Anejey · 2023-11-05 22:47 Ideally what you'd do is use a reverse proxy (nginx, caddy,...) and create an entry that points a domain to the ip:port. Then you'd add the domain in whatever DNS server you got that points to the reverse proxy IP. You can't have a DNS entry point to an IP with a port. Example: * Reverse proxy: **homepage.domain.com -> 192.168.1.10:3000** Now let's say the reverse proxy is at **192.168.1.20** * DNS server: **homepage.domain.com -> 192.168.1.20** You'll get a ton of guides on this if you google it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [deleted] · 2023-11-06 10:52 [removed] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- craveness · 2023-11-08 01:53 Thank you. I think this is the right way, will investigate
