Self- hosted jukebox app: how would you set this up? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AConcernedCoder · 2023-11-05 03:58 The goal is to set up a persistent browser session on my homelab for my favorite web applications, especially streaming music, so that I can access it on any device from my dash and interact, in a way similar to browser isolation but not necessarily for security related purposes. I've been toying around with this idea for a few days and while I have a rough idea about how I'd do it, experience has taught me well that someone has probably already tried this, made it work and already has a published solution out there. Whether or not that's the case, I'm interested in hearing others' ideas on this one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamofnohelp · 2023-11-05 04:36 Like plex? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AConcernedCoder · 2023-11-05 04:39 Plex is about hosting your own media, am I right? That's not what I have in mind. It's more like keeping Spotify or similar up and running on your home server. It could be used for any similar web application. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamofnohelp · 2023-11-05 04:41 So you want to run Spotify on your home pc/browser and access it from wherever? And have it play from whatever you're on? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AConcernedCoder · 2023-11-05 04:45 I want to keep a persistent browser session running on my home server, so I can access from my phone, tablet, etc, from my server's dashboard. The server would be persistently connected to audio, so the solution would be like a dedicated jukebox, not my phone or tablet ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iamofnohelp · 2023-11-05 04:47 Won't the audio play on the host and not any clients connected to it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AConcernedCoder · 2023-11-05 04:53 Right the audio would be played by the host. So it would be like a remote desktop or remote browser isolation depending on how you think about it, but I want to streamline interactivity for this purpose, and a remote desktop session isn't exactly ideal for a handheld device. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gibbc · 2023-11-05 05:52 what about music assistant this is for home assistant but can be run standalone https://github.com/music-assistant ---------------------------------------------------------------------- zfa · 2023-11-05 07:42 No idea about the media aspect but the persistent session could possibly be achieved by something like a webtop or KASM workspace etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-11-05 10:14 Something like openHAB? Obviously can do more than just music but might be worth getting into? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nix_bofh · 2023-11-05 20:22 Check out Owntone, I don't use Spotify but it has a plugin. I run it in a container for my "small" local collection. It has many options on where you want to send the output.... Might work [https://owntone.github.io/owntone- server/](https://owntone.github.io/owntone-server/) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AConcernedCoder · 2023-11-06 17:34 I only had a moment to briefly explore kasm, but I see that besides browser isolation, desktop as a service just looks like it could be incredibly useful. It's definitely worth looking into further. Thanks for tip.
