Recommendation for small hardware running essential containers reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glaubtMirNix · 2023-11-04 07:38 Hey, I want to outsource some crucial services I run using docker. That is mainly Home Assistant including Mosquitto, Raspberrymatic, Deconz and Tasmoadmin plus Adguard Home. I'd reckon I put also fail2ban and Cloudflare-DNS-update on it. So far they are affected by some issues which appear from time to time on my main server (tmp running full, because of some bloated thumbnail dir of a gallery app I try or so. I thought about something like a Pi (which version?) or maybe even a stick from Home Assistant (green, blue,...). What do you think, what do you recommend, what did you do? Cheers ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-11-04 09:13 Seems like the easiest solution is to fix the thumbnail thing? Or add more storage to the current server? Generally you only _need_ to upgrade when your CPU can’t keep up. Adding more Ram and storage usually helps extend CPU life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- glaubtMirNix · 2023-11-04 09:34 Of course I fix it, but until I fix it the crucial stuff is not available. It's just everytime a different thing I mess up when playing around with new selfhosted software. I would keep the other containers running on the current server - so I'm not looking for an upgrade, just for a two tier availability setup ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dazchad · 2023-11-04 09:37 You can try installing proxmox and creating a VM. then once you setup your services and leave them in a working state, create a snapshot of your VM. whenever you mess up, restore the snapshot to a previous working state. Don’t forget to store the data outside the VM volume though! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- fofosfederation · 2023-11-04 15:21 I have an odroid n2+ running home assistant, adguard, and tailscale. It's extremely reliable with zero downtime. My main server is *pretty reliable*, but I agree that isn't reliable enough for stuff like turning the lights on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-11-06 18:56 ## Post Removed Hey, glaubtMirNix!
