Remote.it Alternative reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pubec · 2023-11-03 15:04 Hi I am using [remote.it](https://remote.it) for some RPi devices I have running around. Main goal is to create port-forwaring for either ssh or web access. Is there a self-hosted alternative to [remote.it](https://remote.it)? I was looking into [https://meshcentral.com/](https://meshcentral.com/) but I think it's a bit overkill for simple RPi control. Thank you ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yakadoodle123 · 2023-11-03 16:31 WireGuard VPN into one Pi (or router if it supports it) and then connect to any Pi using whatever you'd normally use to interact with it e.g. SSH / VNC etc? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pubec · 2023-11-03 22:26 That would be great, but I just happen to have one Pi at one location where ISP provider has his modem locked out. The other is at my work place, where router configuration is out of the question. The last one is at my place. [Remote.it](https://Remote.it) supports installing their service, than their cloud creates a proxy to your device. Simple and works great. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yakadoodle123 · 2023-11-03 22:34 Perhaps Tailscale then? It uses WireGuard underneath but it doesn't require any port forwarding etc, it works out its own route. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Pubec · 2023-11-04 05:29 That actually looks really good. Will look into it and try to set it up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- gs89344 · 2023-11-04 07:29 I use Dataplicity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- operator207 · 2023-11-05 00:13 I vave run mesh for a RPi that was running digital signage. Wasn't too bad, it gave me a terminal console and desktop if needed on a network that port forwarding wasn't an option. Worked great, and even with an at best 30mb/s connection over wifi, the desktop and definitely the terminal console was fast enough to do what I needed to do. (swap signage) Mesh is nice if you want access to systems that are not easy to get to. Or if you have a "customer base" (read family) that isn't very tech savvy.
