Self Hosted Youtube client reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonesyj83 · 2023-11-03 08:52 Well as youtube have put their prices up so much. I'm looking at other options. I have found Invidious Piped Teampiped Revanced Freetube Newpipe and a heap more. Is there one out there that works on Android phone, Android TV and web based. Which will sync with each other? Maybe hosting something like InVidious. I swap being videos a lot between my phone and TV. Plus watch youtube on my laptop. From what I've found none of them talk to each other to sync watch videos/subscriptions etc. Any info would be great. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-03 08:55 SmartTube on Android TV, Revanced on Android mobile, Viewtube for web. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonesyj83 · 2023-11-03 08:56 Do these all share between each other? Like If I half watch a video on SmartTube. Can I open Revanced or Viewtube and continue where I left off? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Javi_DR1 · 2023-11-03 09:49 I use revanced on phone and regular youtube on pc and it does sync. Can't speak about the rest ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Miku_x3 · 2023-11-03 11:21 I use Invidious as a self hosted youtube alternative. Its running on my raspberry pi. So I can connect with any device. The only thing you need on the client devices is a webbrowser. You can also create accounts. I am using it for maybe two weeks. But I love it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- arcadianarcadian · 2023-11-03 12:26 Beatbump ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- darkrom · 2023-11-03 12:44 This is great software but not at all relevant to what the OP is asking for ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DevonHess · 2023-11-03 13:12 Revanced on mobile, SmartTube on TV, uBO on desktop. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- yourwifelikesmemore · 2023-11-03 13:45 I use Invidious for web and Clipious for Android. You can create accounts that sync across the different platforms. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- the_voron · 2023-11-03 16:06 https://github.com/mendel5/alternative-front-ends#youtube ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cynyr36 · 2023-11-03 20:23 A youtube to rss feed thing (this is probably the tricky one). Flexget consuming the rss feed and using youtube-dl to downlaod the videos. Jellyfin watching the youtube-dl location(s) Jellyfin clients as needed. ??? Profit! That is unless they've broken YouTube-dl. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- JebsNZ · 2023-11-03 22:06 This is the way, OP. I can promise you that. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MadAndriu · 2023-11-04 01:48 Point in my case is I do not want google/YT to monitor what I see, so looking for alternatives simar to OP but without G/YT account. I am looking at maybe hosting Invidious privately and thus achieve some sort of client syncthing by sharing same user? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-04 01:51 Some of the things already mentioned in this thread can work without a YT account. Of course the videos will still be pulled from Google servers tho. You are not completely anonymous to them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MadAndriu · 2023-11-04 02:29 Yes, but can you achieve some sync? That was the point. Like have an account in a private service, with your favorites, subscriptions, search history. All your devices connect to that account. The videos are ultimately always pulled from G/YT anonymously, but your client is subscribed with your account. That is what we are looking for ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-04 02:42 Probably not, i dont expect completely independent projects to add features to sync with each other. Sure its possible, but i havent seen it in this case. But i also personally dont have any reason (yet?) to hunt for other solutions, i mentioned what i use and im very happy with that currently. The majority of my YT consumption is on my Android TV box connected to the TV, which is where SmartTube is used. I rarely open YT on a desktop or mobile browser, at most to just add a video to "watch later". The same with mobile app but with Revanced. > Like have an account in a private service, with your favorites, subscriptions, search history. All your devices connect to that account. Sure i get that idea. But where do you imagine that account is actually being handled and stored? When using 2-3 different apps? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MadAndriu · 2023-11-04 03:05 I do not think that it requires "completely independent projects to add features to sync with each other". Many different apps on different platforms can connect to the youtube account and "share" history, subscriptions, channels, without a sync solution as such (e.g., if you connect to YT through the Kodi addon?) So it is not about making different apps to come up with a common syncthing tool, but maybe some apps in different platforms are able to connect to the same non-propietary server under a common standard/account? I get that is not what we are looking for. I am, and it got the impression that OP may be also looking for something similar. Just wondering if a selfhosted Invidious server would do that, or anyone may have other ideas. I will try myself but just thought I may ask if someone had any feedback. Thanks for your perspective ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MadAndriu · 2023-11-04 03:08 Thanks, never heard about Clipious before. This sounds as it may be exactly what I had been looking for. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MadAndriu · 2023-11-04 03:10 Will try this, together with Clipious as other user suggested. Thanks for sharing ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-04 03:23 > Many different apps on different platforms can connect to the youtube account and "share" history, subscriptions, channels, without a sync solution as such (e.g., if you connect to YT through the Kodi addon?) Yes because they all use the Google/YT account. And the point of this sub is to try to avoid things like that. And i also mentioned that in this thread. When all the apps use the Google account anyway, then syncing watched status etc is a given. When everything should be completely cut off from Google, then it becomes much more complicated. And thats when one place needs to exist to sync to and store the info for each account. > So it is not about making different apps to come up with a common syncthing tool, but maybe some apps in different platforms are able to connect to the same non-propietary server under a common standard/account? Yes, but afaik nobody has done that so far, and even if one project does, will everyone else join? Questionable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MadAndriu · 2023-11-04 04:34 Thanks for your view. But I still do not get why your suggestions are supposed to be better aligned with the point of this sub that other options mentioned. What makes SmartTube on Android TV, Revanced on Android mobile, Viewtube for web different from or better than Invidious for these purposes? Care to elaborate? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-04 04:37 I already did. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- SillyLilBear · 2023-11-05 06:14 How does viewtube compare to invidious?
