A timely post, as I've been looking for the right fit for the video surveillance platform I'm setting up. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curld · 2023-11-02 18:51 Checkout [r/FOSSvideosurveillance](https://www.reddit.com/r/FOSSvideos urveillance) and my [Github stars](https://github.com/Curid?tab=stars) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bleomycin · 2023-11-03 00:17 Interesting thanks for sharing! I've been trying to get away from BlueIris for years but never seem to be able to shake it. Can you provide some more details? Does this support live gpu hardware transcoding for h.264 and h.265 (quicksync, nvenc)? On a cell phone I'm not going to want to stream the original 4k feed from my ipcams. Any support for PTZ control? Object detection only through TFlite? Seems to be optimized for coral use rather than CPU only or GPU accelerated like codeproject.ai? Mobile push notification on IOS? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curld · 2023-11-03 08:10 > Does this support live gpu hardware transcoding for h.264 and h.265 (quicksync, nvenc)? On a cell phone I'm not going to want to stream the original 4k feed from my ipcams. We avoid transcoding all together by using the sub-stream strait from the camera. You can toggle between the main a sub stream on the live page. Decoding the sub-stream for motion/object detection if fairly cheap without hardware acceleration. We could add support for hardware accelerated decoding, but I don't think it's worth risking reliability issued due to broken drivers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curld · 2023-11-03 08:22 > Does this support live gpu hardware transcoding for h.264 and h.265 (quicksync, nvenc)? I'm curious what people use it for. I can see a use case for actively controlling the camera from the UI, but automatically tracking objects seems like it could be vulnerable to someone distracting the camera while another person sneaks around it. > Object detection only through TFlite? Seems to be optimized for coral use rather than CPU only or GPU accelerated like codeproject.ai? CPU only works, but it's intended to be used with a coral. I'd be interested in alternatives that can be used with RPIs. > Mobile push notification on IOS? We've been putting off notifications support until the custom object detection model becomes more reliable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jogai-san · 2023-11-03 08:32 Does it support usb webcams? Like when the server is besides the 3d printer and you want to monitor that remotely? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curld · 2023-11-03 08:38 We can add support if there's demand. I should warn that webcams tend to break if you run them 24/7 for extended periods of time. https://codeberg.org/SentryShot/sentryshot/issues/8 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- jogai-san · 2023-11-03 14:19 Awesome. > I should warn that webcams tend to break if you run them 24/7 for extended periods of time. I didn't know. But usb connected devices have limited use, so I suspect not many people are going to run this for very long. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ImprovedJesus · 2023-11-03 14:34 Great! How does it compare with Frigate? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Curld · 2023-11-03 16:51 We don't have any home assistant integrations besides a live card. If you're using Frigate for object detection and are happy with it, there's no reason to switch. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bleomycin · 2023-11-03 18:04 Neat, thanks for the reply! Using a camera sub-stream is a good idea for mobile devices. I suppose I came at it from the perspective of codeproject.ai's requirements. Their model was trained on 640x640 resolution (I think) so sending a sub stream image larger than that degrades performance and isn't super recommended but looks like crap even on a phone so I dedicate that stream entirely to object detection. Some of my cameras only have a single sub stream option which is why I lean on being able to transcode the video live at times with my current setup. I'm sure my use of PTZ is super non-standard - I basically have a camera at a remote property with a view and like being able to zoom into random things like boats passing by, animals, check the snow pack on the mountain, look at smoke from a controlled burn, etc. Blue Iris has native support for being able to just drag the mouse anywhere on the image live and the camera will point and zoom at that location instantly. It's pretty awesome. I don't know of any coral alternatives that can be cheaply used with a raspberry pi specifically but I do know that codeproject.ai has native support for Rockchip RK3588/RK3588S NPUs like the Orange Pi 5/5B/5 Plus I'm excited to see where your project goes, it looks very promising!
