Hardware Recommendations for Multipurpose Self-Hosting? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GrabtharsHammer3120 · 2023-11-02 16:18 Hey folk, I'm very new to this and just exploring right now, but I am finding myself a little overwhelmed by the hardware end of things. Ideally I'm looking for an out-of-box relatively contained solution rather than building anything custom, but I am somewhat flexible. I don't need software support out of the box. I'm looking for something I can host multiple services with. Here's the list of what I know I want off the bat, but I'm also going to be looking at more options as the self-hosting world seems pretty awesome! * Plex server - primarily for local use, but open to giving access to a few trusted friends. * Radarr & Sonarr plus a torrent client. * Foundry VTT - self-hosted virtual D&D tabletop so my group can access it even round the clock. * NextCloud * Firefly III (or similar) - budgeting software * Whatever other apps or gadgets I decide to tinker with Obviously the Plex server is the most hardware intensive thing. I've seen certain devices, such as the Synology DS920+, recommended for this, but as I understand this has a pretty underpowered CPU and relies on other optimization for things like video transcoding. Would that still be adequate for all the other stuff I want to use? I imagine with everything else running simultaneously it could tax the system more. Anyway, I likely need to dig more, but I wondered if there were any recommended quick-and-easy solutions that are well known to be able to handle all this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-02 16:24 This sub here is about **selfhosting software services**, not about any hardware purchase or upgrade advice. Try subs like /r/HomeServer /r/Homelab etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GrabtharsHammer3120 · 2023-11-02 16:25 Ah sorry, my bad! This sub kept coming up in my hardware searches, so I thought it was the place. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- kmisterk · 2023-11-06 18:42 ## Post Removed Hey, GrabtharsHammer3120!
