*Arr suite setup (docker vs Proxmox vs mix) reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- n00namer · 2023-11-02 14:03 Hello folks, I'm pretty sure it was already answered, so apologies because I can't find :( I have decide to upgrade my RPI 3 to Beelink MINI-S12 Pro Mini N100 16GB RAM. I'm trying to avoid rabbit halls and see what is the recommended way to leverage such machine for media server + some other services. I used to run dietPI with docker and all services in the docker containers. With mini-pc people seems to suggest running Proxmox instead. So, I'm looking for suggestion how to run such setup: 1. Plex Server 2. Radarr + Sonarr 3. VPN + dowwloader I have seen such scripts: [https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/](https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/) which runs plex on Ubuntu LXC container. But what about other services? what is the best way to separate them + I want to put some behind VPN (with only access to internet through VPN and nothing else). Thanks in advance! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ardeeny · 2023-11-02 14:26 I went through similar rabbit hole adventure. In the end I went with truenas scale because I didn't really have to virtualize anything so one of the best feature of proxmox (which is in my opinion virtualization) would not even be used. Truenas has Great support when it comes to *arrs imo. It also has very user friendly ZFS GUIs. The documentation is confusing/outdated from service to service, but that's only because of fast paced evolution of projects involved. The discord community is hands Down the best documentation. Tldr If you dont have to use promox I would personally go with truenas. You can also try to nest virtualize proxmox under truenas. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BlueEye9234 · 2023-11-02 15:39 Personally I ripped almost my entire setup from this guy: https://github.com/AdrienPoupa/docker-compose-nas/ Jellyfin instead of Plex, but, can't imagine it's so different. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- n00namer · 2023-11-02 16:38 you went full docker? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- BlueEye9234 · 2023-11-02 17:11 Yup, just running on debian on a intel nuc with a 4TB external SSD. The one thing to note is that the "vpn" container in that setup does not route anything but qbittorrent through it and isn't really setup to allow access in to the network, not even sure if PIA works that way tbh. My plan right now is to install tailscale to the host machine, then add my DNS server as a DNS server in tailscale for "on the go" access. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- n00namer · 2023-11-02 18:06 well I used to use docker, but with Proxmox and mini-pc LXC seems quite better option ---------------------------------------------------------------------- indykoning · 2023-11-03 18:56 Honestly there is not really a Proxmox Vs docker or nix Proxmox is your hypervisor, your operating system you run other operating systems on. Inside of it you could run nix or docker containers in a VM if you like. My suggestion is to run Proxmox and run Nix or Docker in a VM inside of it. I personally use docker but that's because it's what I like to use ---------------------------------------------------------------------- bibear54 · 2023-11-04 03:18 Thanks for this
