I have a batch file that upload automatically database backup to a cloud server. Now, my boss want to upload that database backup to a desktop computer in our office. reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElChulon · 2023-11-01 15:40 Hello, here more details ~~(sorry for english, not my native language)~~: We have some clients that have a local system (they have his own server) made with PHP and MySQL. I have made a batch file that made a backup of database and that batch file is execute by a Task Scheduler in a certain hour of the day, then the backup.sql is compressed and uploaded to one of our servers. Now, my boss want that backups to be uploaded to a machine that we have in the office, basically will be a backup server. Is this possible? Or there is better ways to do this? Thanks in advance ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flangepaddle · 2023-11-01 15:54 What happens if the offices burns down or ramsacked by burglars? Keep back ups off site (ideally two back ups, one on site and one off) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-01 17:15 Of course that is *possible*. If your script can upload the backup file to a cloud server, then it also can upload it to a local server. The question is more, should it upload it to both? If yes, why not do it? If your boss wants to upload the backup only to the local storage in the future, without the cloud backup, thats a bad idea as /u/flangepaddle correctly points out, explain that to your boss. But if he insinsts, sure thats also possible to do. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flangepaddle · 2023-11-01 17:34 I read it as upload to the office instead of cloud. If it's both though, yeah do it. Two scripts if it's easier, one to the cloud and one to server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-01 17:58 Yeah, both options are very simple. Im not sure what the exact question here is. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElChulon · 2023-11-01 19:00 Thank you for your response and advice. My boss would like basically to create another batch file that upload to the machine in the office, without touching the one we already have that upload backup to the cloud server. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElChulon · 2023-11-01 19:06 Thank you for your comment. Sorry, I didn't communicate my idea in a good way, but basically it is like you said, having another batch file that is responsible for uploading the backup to the company computer. I don't how exactly I can set up that computer to upload database backup, should I use IP? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flangepaddle · 2023-11-01 19:10 So long as it doesn't run at the same time, I'm not sure what the issue is? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElChulon · 2023-11-01 19:11 I edited the original post to add some extra information. Hope it helps. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElChulon · 2023-11-01 19:11 Hey, I edited the original post to add some extra information. Not sure exactly what you mean. And this isnt about selfhosting. Maybe try /r/sysadmin? and thats a big MAYBE. Or /r/LinuxQuestions /r/HomeNetworking ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-01 19:15 > What exactly should I use on HOST, FTP_ACCOUNT and FTP_ACCOUNT_PASSWORD to connect to the computer office? (I change the real values) *facepalm* sorry... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-11-01 19:16 The issue apparently is that they dont know how to connect to the other computer... *smh* ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElChulon · 2023-11-01 19:20 Yes, that is the issue. I supposed i posted in the wrong community right? You share me other community to look for help ---------------------------------------------------------------------- flangepaddle · 2023-11-01 19:37 I think outsourcing to an MSP is the best option here
