On "Service URL", you can type **any** NTFY-Server you like, for example [https://ntfy.sh](https://ntfy.sh) ; Topic name = "public". Type anything you like (Title, Message etc.), and click on "Send". On the [ntfy.sh](https://ntfy.sh)\-Tab, you will receive that Notification... But your own NTFY-Server has allowed to send that Notification without any User Authentication! And it is - as far as I know - not configurable at the moment to block this! Even if you didn't create users at all and your NTFY-Server runs with `auth-default-access: "deny-all"`, this is still possible! For me, that means: If you do selfhost NTFY and you expose your NTFY- Server to the Internet, I highly recommend to disable Web-Access (`web-root: "disable"` in server.yml). Otherwise, every Person is able to reach your NTFY-Server through Web-Access, and through that, they can Spam other publicly accessible NTFY-Servers! There's - as far as I know - no solution to this problem on the NTFY-Server itself, except disabling Web-Access. To be more clear at this point: My publicly available NTFY-Server may be possibly responsible for Spamming other NTFY-Servers that have public Topics. And that's a risk I don't wanna take... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok_Accident1034 · 2023-10-31 23:09 Now I get what your saying. Works for me ---------------------------------------------------------------------- hash004 · 2023-11-01 22:15 The way my domain is setup within cloudflare, it serves my apps via https but within the tunnel it defines the app with http. My public hostname page looks like so: # Public Hostname Page ## Edit public hostname for Home Server - **Public hostname** - **Subdomain:** `ntfy` - **Domain (Required):** `mydomain.com` - **Path:** `/` (optional path) - **Service** - **Type (Required):** `HTTP` - **URL (Required):** `://192.168...:8...` If you want to troubleshoot this, you'll have to check the logs within the docker container using `docker logs [CONTAINER_NAME_OR_ID]` ---------------------------------------------------------------------- boganslayer · 2023-11-02 00:51 I would love to have something similar for the supermarkets - is your script adjustable for my region and mind sharing please? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iuselect · 2023-11-02 01:27 unfortunately it's not really adjustable or efficient. it's just a real basic BASH script which does a curl and uses some jank regex to extract the data I need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ovizii · 2023-11-02 11:18 I've read about it a few times, but those docs were all way over my head. Would you mind sharing a few more tips/infos/configs about how you use it? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eroc1990 · 2023-11-02 12:13 At it most basic, Ntfy is where applications will send push notifications instead of leveraging something like Firebase Cloud Messaging or Google Cloud Messaging to deliver those pushes. If following the recommended configuration of configuring default access to "deny-all" except your authenticated hash or basic credentials, you would need to create a rule to allow anything starting with up, as detailed [here](https://docs.ntfy.sh/config/#example-unifiedpush). Once that's been configured, within the settings of a supported app, it'll give you the option to select your notification delivery method. Once you switch to UnifiedPush, as long as you have the app on your phone already, you'll have a topic created in your Ntfy app for that UnifiedPush sender, and all of your app notifications for that app will leverage Ntfy. App notifications will still appear normally, though, as if you were still using one of those other cloud messaging architectures. They won't show up directly in Ntfy like other subscribed topics. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ovizii · 2023-11-02 15:22 Thanks, that contained a few hints and I am sure I can allow anonymous access for the up\* prefix. Unfortunately I am still stuck with a missing link between setting ntfy up as described and possible use cases. What exactly can I do / use this for AFTER allowing anonymous access to the prefix up\* on my ntfy server which I can't do at the moment? The unifiedpush website is totally confusing me. \- ntfy-server is my push server \- ntfy-android is my distributor app How does "Application server" and "Phone application" factor into this? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- eroc1990 · 2023-11-02 16:38 Correct. Only a few apps support it. I use Element, SchildiChat, and Moshidon which all support UP. The devs of apps would need to implement the capability before it can be enabled as your notification source. That makes things a bit fragmented for now, but if more people jump on, it allows you to be able to handle your own notifications without relying on Firebase or GCM. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AzuraVT · 2023-11-04 07:58 Primarily i use it as a means to further reduce the amount of data in other companies' hands My primary phone has no Gapps, and ntfy is the prime reason why. Now,if anyone knows how to cram FCM into ntfy in such a way that i can have push notifs on discord,i'm all ears (No,i dont want microg, thanks) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dogeek · 2023-11-05 10:18 I use it to centralize notifications from different sources, like from the arr stack (prowlarr, radarr, lidarr, sonarr, readarr, whisparr etc) and from alertmanager. I really need to use it more though, it's very convenient to have phone notifications for all kinds of services.
