Ambry audiobook service vs Audioserve reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noketone · 2023-10-30 05:06 Anybody played with Ambry for hosting audiobooks? Looks like the dev released an android app, and the UI in both the web and app is more slick/visually appealing than Audioserve. Audiobookshelf is a no go for me - the project is rapidly developing, has lots of bugs, and has caused some serious system failures when doing apt-update. Maybe once it's stable and in maintenance, but for now - no. I'm torn between the two, and was hoping to field some input as to whether I should set up Ambry or Audioserve. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- raph-dev · 2023-10-30 11:44 I am a daily user of audiobookshelf for quote some time. Didn't encounter any serious bugs for at least 6 months. Also installation and upgrading ist very easy with docker. No problems here. For me, audiobookshelf ist one of the best software to selfhost out there. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -eschguy- · 2023-10-30 18:26 What bugs do you see in Audiobookshelf? I've used it as my audiobook and podcast app for a while now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noketone · 2023-10-30 21:13 The biggest one: on doing apt-update, audiobookshelf crashed the updater and left me without most of my software - roughly half of the software on the server was in an uninstalled state. I submitted an issue on github - still unhandled despite providing logs. I love how I specifically asked about 2 different apps, and said a 3rd app was unsuitable for my needs, and the only replies I've gotten are "use the unsuitable one! it's great!" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noketone · 2023-10-30 21:15 There's also the issue that it doesn't, and likely won't, support subfolder paths for reverse proxy due to a deeply rooted issue that can't be fixed without reworking the entire system. Meanwhile, both Ambry and Audioserve both support subfolder paths for reverse proxy ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -eschguy- · 2023-10-30 21:47 I don't have experience with either of your "suitable" ones, so I was curious why you didn't like the one I do have experience with. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -eschguy- · 2023-10-30 21:48 Not sure I understand the issue, you point your libraries wherever you want them to be (mine are on a NAS) and it scans/downloads/reads from there. Good luck with the two you want to use, though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- noketone · 2023-10-30 22:20 https://github.com/advplyr/audiobookshelf/issues/385
