Windows Folder sharing like "Google Drive" style reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- paxxx84 · 2023-10-29 14:31 hi everyone, i want to make the switch moving from Google Drive to selfhosted, and currenly I got a windows server up and running with a big hard drive which I want to make accessible like "Google Drive", so on phone by an App, on Windows like a mounted drive, etc. What do you guys use for that usecase? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-29 14:36 Look through the awesome-selfhosted list in the subreddit sidebar and simply use the search function for the subreddit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- MediocreMachine3543 · 2023-10-29 15:03 NextCloud seems to be a good option for this. I haven’t deployed myself, but it’s on my list of todo’s after I receive a shipment of HDDs from Amazon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-10-29 15:03 I think we've missed a few steps here. > currenly I got a windows server up and running with a big hard drive What is the Windows Server doing? Sounds almost completely unnecessary if what you want is Google Drive. > so on phone by an App No need for anything else here other than a shared drive. Plenty of apps for browsing remote file shares. > on Windows like a mounted drive, Just... mount a drive. Not really sure what you're doing or that you really have the concept of servers/hosting/file sharing down. Hard to suggest where to go without knowing what you are actually looking to achieve. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-29 15:10 SMB. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- nk316 · 2023-10-29 15:11 Nextcloud ---------------------------------------------------------------------- AnApexBread · 2023-10-29 16:31 Nextcloud or OwnCloud answer the mail for most of these except mounting them as a shared drive. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Vokasak · 2023-10-29 17:33 I'm currently using nextcloud but I kind of hate it, and would love to switch to something else... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-10-29 21:08 I switched to Seafile when I got fed up spending my weekends fixing Nextcloud. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- iC0nk3r · 2023-10-29 23:18 Synology Drive. Seafile and Seafile Client are - although the product lags proper patch management. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GeneMoody-Action1 · 2023-10-30 00:32 [https://syncthing.net/](https://syncthing.net/) [https://www.turnkeylinux.org/syncthing](https://www.turnkeylinux.org/ syncthing) OR possible FileVista [https://www.gleamtech.com/filevista](https://www.gleamtech.com/filevi sta) I use filevista in several systems, they have a full live demo online no registration. https://demos.gleamtech.com/filevista/login.aspx ---------------------------------------------------------------------- linkthepirate · 2023-10-30 01:22 There is filebrowser https://hub.docker.com/r/filebrowser/filebrowser/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Accomplished-Lack721 · 2023-10-30 04:13 You can access them via Webdav, though I find that slower than it should be for large files. You can also use the NextCloud Desktop app for the "shared drive"-like experience, similar to the Google Drive desktop app. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- tech2but1 · 2023-10-30 09:30 > unfortunately I wouldn't say SeaDrive is very stable so far. What issues are you having with it? I have it running on half a dozen machines and don't find any reliability issues, arguably more stable than Google Drive on some and certainly better than OneDrive on all of them (which I've given up with as it just won't sync anything like what you expect). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- mnopw · 2023-10-30 19:53 Unreliable caching behavior. Edge cases. Issues when opening files with applications. Google Drive has so far been stable. It is just a little bit slow when using it in the browser and when navigating folders in general. Also lacks Linux support. Search is awesome. OneDrive is a peace of shit. Don't know why Microsoft is wasting everyones money instead of hiring a competent team building a solid file sync software from the ground up.
