External WebDAV suggestions reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- auto_enthu · 2023-10-29 13:14 I am looking for suggestions on the best way to access my WebDAV site from outside my network. Due to the upload size of the files, Cloudflare tunnel is not an option. I have attempted this. The WebDAV site is currently in IIS. I have a domain that I would like to use. Is a reverse proxy the best option? I have some confusion on the setup of a reverse proxy in general. I feel like I am over complicating this whole process. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-29 13:37 * You would simply open the port for your WebDAV service, if youre using a typical consumer router, look into port-forwarding. * Or you place a reverse proxy server in front of the WebDAV. Open a port for the proxy alone, and set the proxy to redirect to the WebDAV. * Alternatively you run a form of VPN, leaving the WebDAV port itself closed to the public. But you would need to run a client software on the device that wants to connect to the WebDAV share from the outside. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-29 13:52 WAN > reverse proxy > IIS WebDAV. If you don't need access for anyone I suggest putting your access behind a VPN. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- auto_enthu · 2023-10-29 14:01 It would be for an application uploading files automatically everyday so VPN wouldn’t be an option. Any suggestions for reverse proxy for IIS? Other than IIS? Or is it the best in this case? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ElevenNotes · 2023-10-29 14:10 nginx with headers more plugin for basic auth since nginx OSS does not support NTLM.
