VM Cloud Image limitations NFS and SMB reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- lolappapalol ยท 2023-10-28 08:49 Previously I had switched to using a cloud image for my docker hosts because it was simple, I had an ansible playlist that downloaded the latest image and made modifications to it for Proxmox and then created a Proxmox template. But I recall an issue with NFS shares and stale file handles with Plex and a general problem with SMB shares where it was showing '?' for certain special characters. For the SMB problem, it's due to the Ubuntu Cloud image using a super small kernel and when you try to install the kernel module, it basically downloads another 900MB full kernel making it kinda pointless to use the cloud image. For the NFS issue... not sure what was causing it and couldn't fix it with Plex so moved onto samba. Emby and Jellyfin didn't care at all. I used autoFS and fstab, neither solution worked. Does anyone else have these limitations with their cloud image? Do you use Samba or NFS with cloud images? What is your OS with data on it, Truenas/Unraid/etc?
