Outline and Grist reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TerryMathews · 2023-10-27 19:34 Can anyone who's successfully running Grist within their Outline instance respond here or PM me? I have some questions about how it's supposed to work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- thekrautboy · 2023-10-27 21:33 > I have some questions about how it's supposed to work. Maybe ask those questions upfront here so people can either respond if they know answers or not? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TerryMathews · 2023-10-27 22:35 Ok 1) On the Grist integration for Outline, does Outline proxy the calls or does the Grist instance need to be accessible to the outside world? 2) Once the integration is properly setup, will I be able to create a Grist table directly in Outline, or will I need to create the table and paste the link? Should I be able to create a Grist table in a doc by using /grist? I had my Grist container up and running earlier today, and my Outline accepted the http://localhost:8484 integration URL but when I invoked /grist it asked me for a Grist URL. I don't believe this is expected behavior, but the documentation is non-existent from what I can tell. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dungeonchurch · 2023-10-29 21:18 1. I'm not sure, I use the pro Grist and I had to enter my custom domain in the Self Hosted settings to get it to work. I would think as long as Grist is accessible to Outline at that URL it would work. 2. No it just embeds like any other embed. Currently you have to use a public URL that's shared but there's an open issue on Github about this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- TerryMathews · 2023-10-29 21:45 >No it just embeds like any other embed. Currently you have to use a public URL that's shared but there's an open issue on Github about this. You can click between tables/widgets in the embed tho. Gotcha, and thank you. At this point, for me, there's no reason to prefer Grist over Google Sheets embeds. I was hoping for something a little more automatic, but if I'm needing to create a provision a Grist table I may as well do the same with Google Sheets and not worry about managing my own instance of Grist or working around the non- Excel way it manages data. I appreciate your reply, thank you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dungeonchurch · 2023-10-29 22:54 Actually it does look like you can manipulate tables in the embed, I just don't have permissions set up appropriately to do it...
