flatnotes - Improved image support in the v3.4 release 🎉 reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adullage · 2023-10-27 12:19 Hey all, v3.4 of [flatnotes](https://flatnotes.io) has just been released and I wanted to share it here in case anyone is interested. For those that are unfamiliar, [flatnotes](https://flatnotes.io) is a self-hosted, database-less note-taking web app that utilises a flat folder of markdown files for storage. You can see a demo at [demo.flatnotes.io](https://demo.flatnotes.io). The latest v3.4 release greatly improves support for images. Previously, images were converted to base64 which was then embedded in the markdown file. Unfortunately, this didn't make for a great experience when editing as you'd have to navigate around a large blob of base64 text. In this new release, images are now uploaded to an `/attachments` directory located alongside the notes and then a simple link to the image is inserted into the markdown file (e.g. `![My Photo](/attachments/my-photo.jpg)`). Since I last posted about flatnotes here there have also been [many other improvements](https://github.com/dullage/flatnotes/releases) including a new `read_only` authentication mode which allows you to use flatnotes as a searchable front end for a bunch of markdown files. I hope this is useful to some of you. Let me know if you have any questions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Famku · 2023-10-27 13:54 nice app ---------------------------------------------------------------------- digitalindependent · 2023-10-27 16:29 Very interesting! How do internal links work? I tried to link to the title of an internal note but it doesn’t work… ---------------------------------------------------------------------- adullage · 2023-10-27 21:40 Currently, this is only possible by manually adding the link but it is [the most requested feature](https://github.com/dullage/flatnotes/issues/14) so I will be taking a look soon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- guesswhochickenpoo · 2023-12-07 23:27 Just doing a head to head of flatnotes and otterwiki and I'm wondering if there is a way to mange the images or other attachments aside from deleting and re-pasting or uploading the image in the editor. Is there a way to rename, delete, etc the files without going into the file system on the server?
