How to get Jellyfin to see files in a media library? reddit / selfhosted ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DiabloTerrorGF · 2023-10-27 09:14 Jellyfin can find my media files if they are within a subfolder of my media like \\shows\\Show1 but if I have any loose media in \\shows\ it just doesn't scan them properly. I can find the em in the "Episodes" tab of the library but it doesn't seem to show them in main library tab. This affects using android/fire tv apps that browse the folder as they only show what's in the main listing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- levogevo · 2023-10-27 09:33 Need to be in subfolders. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DiabloTerrorGF · 2023-10-27 09:47 Is there no way around this? This makes organizing currently airing shows super annoying and a lot more manual labor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- levogevo · 2023-10-27 09:48 Just make a subfolder called currently airing? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DiabloTerrorGF · 2023-10-27 09:49 But then Jellyfin tries to use the subfolder name for identification. Why can't I identify via episode? It just seems mundane. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- levogevo · 2023-10-27 09:51 Well, it's not normal for a bunch of different shows' episodes to be right next to each other. I'm not sure why you don't move them to their respective show subfolders. I think either using a separate library or separate subfolder is the best way to stay organized. Media organizers like Radarr/Sonarr don't support dangling files either. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DiabloTerrorGF · 2023-10-27 09:56 Why is it not normal? How are you getting files automatically organized into folders? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- levogevo · 2023-10-27 10:00 I have a separate download folder that jellyfin doesn't see and from there, the files go straight to the respective subfolder like Movies/Movie A/movie.video This is how radarr/sonarr work to organize, so look into them if you haven't already. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- coderEnt · 2023-10-27 10:01 Using something like [sonarr](https://sonarr.tv/) will probably help you a lot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DiabloTerrorGF · 2023-10-27 10:17 Why... why are they all separate apps? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- levogevo · 2023-10-27 10:20 That's just how it is. I'm guessing you never heard of the arr stack ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PaintDrinkingPete · 2023-10-27 10:42 if you set your library up as "movies" instead of "TV shows", I **think** it will behave more like what you're asking for. I have a "movies" library that it is basically just a directory that's full of old movies and shows that were downloaded long ago prior to modern organization schemes... some are in subfolders, some are just "loose"... it picks them all up... but you lose the ability to have jellyfin auto sort everything by show/season, as every item is just listed as a single entity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- dormoubmadsuz · 2023-10-27 10:46 Nice collection, but organization could be better. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IllegalD · 2023-10-28 01:11 You should look into radarr/sonarr etc, they'll actually do all the organisation work that you seem reluctant to ---------------------------------------------------------------------- billysmusic · 2023-10-28 12:27 This is why I was turned off of Jellyfin, I’d like to organize things the way I want
